Hey Seagulls! My sister sent me this photo of a dress she bought in Camden Markets, she wants to know my opinion..
Any tips on how to improve this? I've already got her to remove some black lace around the chest that looks really cheap.

Dear god, I... I don't think you can. You could do a complete overhaul of the dress, but it wouldn't change the fact that the print itself is just hideous.

Ah it's a pity, I should've gone with her. ;_;

Here's a collage for some ideas.

The lace on the ends makes it worse, I think.

Is that an old Bodyline or something?

Hey I never come to this board, or care about cosplay at all. I just saw an image of this hideous dress on the front page and followed the link. I just want to ask though, what does this have to do with cosplay? Is this board used for fashion advice too or something?

Is this a picture of the dress taken after the lace around the chest was removed? I don't see the lace you are talking about.

Maybe get rid of the sleeves as well.

I...I kinda like the print. The design of the dress is kinda ugly but the print is neat.
Perhaps take off the sleeves and do something about that under-bust area.

But then again I'm here for the cosplay and not lolita stuff, so my opinion may not be as helpful.

>> No.6600500

It's never going to be good, but you can probably salvage it into 'wearable' status by removing the sleeves and replacing all of the lace.

It's still pretty fug though. The fabric quality looks terrible regardless of the print or design.

Wow... this dress needs some SERIOUS work D: The design isn't so bad as it's mostly the random areas they decided to print it and the horrible construction.

1. Get read of the sleeves wear the print is - make it into a puff sleeve.
2. Get rid of the print strips that runs from the neck to the waist. If anything, find a nice quality lace or even just white fabric to replace it. Same goes for the random print strips on the waist line. Then you could probably do some black satin ribbons to weave through that area to cinch the waist.
3. I don't even know about the block of print on the chest.... Get rid of it. Make three bows with the discarded print fabric and place them there if anything. Just having that block there is hideous. [and hey, you can make a head bow out of discarded fabric too]
4. Remove ALL the lacing that's on the skirts and instead add a black ruffles to both tiers. I don't know how long this dress hits but if possible - bring the second tier skirt up to hide that white panel and just make the black ruffle longer on the bottom.

Also.. why oh WHY did she even spend money on this dress if it has to be butchered to even look remotely nice?

well the whole thing looks cheap

>> No.6602310

There's no saving this. Just tell your sister she's better off burning money than buying clothes ever again.

>> No.6602317

Sell it cheap, buy something else.

>> No.6602353

Chop off the sleeves and all the lace and then dye the entire thing black assuming the cheap fabric will even hold dye (you can test it on one of the chopped off sleeves). If not, sell it to an ita on ebay.

>> No.6602483

bleach it itd be white do a steins;gate cosplay

>> No.6602501

Holy fuck. Looks like the idea was nice, but whoever sewed it must have been thrown into a dark room while in between.
I don't think you can fix it.

>> No.6602533

Chop off the sleeves at the end of the white fabric near the shoulders to make it a half-sleeve OP and replace the lace.

You could either bleach the print away (use a color remover for white garments, not actual bleach) or dye it black, the black of the print and the dyed fabric background will give a much more subtle contrast.
