Lads, in the first AX post of this year I shared how sad I was that my amazing friend group who I went with to last year's con dropped out on plans this year. I'm happy to share that my best friend is going to be coming with me :) She almost couldn't make it bc of monetary reasons but her birthday was so close that I just gave her the ticket as a gift and now we're both stoked to shill out fat stacks of cash in AA. Entirely depends on price. GSC is one of the more reasonable stalls to get them from and sometimes has exclusive merch. Outside of that, you're likely paying a markup at the third-party reseller stalls. I'd say scales are the best bang for your buck as you won't be paying for the shipping cost and can be fairly reasonable if not marked up massively past the base cost.

I live in Orange County and haven't been to Little Tokyo since the COVID protocols started. Have there been any significant closures? Any recs for Japanese curry? I always went with friends to Curry House for dinner on day 3 and haven't found anywhere comparable.

Depends. If it's an exclusive from a series I care about, I'll make the effort. Otherwise, I can get 90% of the vendor's hall online for cheaper. I usually save my money for AA or the ticketed events.

I try not to buy figures that much these days, aside from maybe some nendoroids that catch my eye. My first AX I bought alot of figures not realizing I could get them cheaper either online or locally like little tokyo/wherever I was stationed at the time. AX is what you make of it, but I always think its at least worth going once. I generally go with my group of friends who are /a/utist like me, so I have a slight bias in my enjoyment, but theirs always the chance to meet anons and potential friends at meetups and the like. If you can afford it, I'd say its worth. If not and you're hesitant on how much you'd enjoy it, just save your time and money.

Broke up with my girlfriend of 4 years who I met at AX...was thinking of not going but screw that. I want to have some fun.

If you're local to LA/SoCal or get here early enough, you can go to the Fashion/Textile district in Downtown LA. There's a whole street (I think it's Main or Los Angeles Street) that has nothing but menswear stores. Decent stop for cheap suits/tuxes but they also sell the tacky ass suits that Brothas wear, so I'm sure getting a decent red suit like what you pictured wouldn't be too hard there. And it would be an actual suit not like a Halloween costume. Prices shouldn't be too bad either depending on your budget.

Local here, if you don't mind a bit of a walk head west on Figueroa St and just past the Ralphs there's a bunch of restaurants downtown in the blocks between 9th and 7th street where all the people who work in the area eat. If you're brave you can also get there by hopping on the Metro at Pico station right across the street and get off at 7th St Metro Center, one stop away, there's a food court underneath the Target, and the Macy's plaza on Flower&7th has a Marugame Udon on the lower level.
Also I highly recommend to just check google maps in detail before you go, I remember my first AX before I lived here I didn't know the area and had no idea how much stuff was within walking distance because the immediate vicinity of LACC is so desolate.

Anime Expo is so unprofessional that there is a good chance in the future that Sony pulls a Nintendo by running their own Aniplex convention backed by their own Sony artists and musicians. After all, Sony already has experience hosting events. For example, their camera division has an yearly photography summit. The reason is that it's a tropical vacation and there are lot of Japanese there. It's both far from Japan but not all the way on the other side of the world.
