Lads, in the first AX post of this year I shared how sad I was that my amazing friend group who I went with to last year's con dropped out on plans this year. I'm happy to share that my best friend is going to be coming with me :) She almost couldn't make it bc of monetary reasons but her birthday was so close that I just gave her the ticket as a gift and now we're both stoked to shill out fat stacks of cash in AA. >for the premierfags, you miss being a premierfag this year?
Never was one, but sad to hear it for y'all. I hope this doesn't cause linecon again.
>did you manage to get a hotel? Just a yes or no would suffice
No, I'm a local
>How’s your AX fund jar doing so far and what’s your budget?
I got a big girl job, so it's going well! I do have a big ass car payment now, but thankfully it doesn't chip away too much at my fund jar.
>You got your work PTO approved?
I don't work weekends, so no need but I'll probably take the monday off anyway.
>Any setbacks so far until the con?
Not making stupid purchases until then, but otherwise the hard part is over!
>Cosplay Day 0/1/2/3 plans?
No cosplays this year unfortunately. I put my actual cosplay on the backburner to work on an outfit for the Barbie movie premiere (which is going to double as my halloween costume). And it's easier to shop not in costume. Since I'm not going for more than one day, I am kinda bummed that I can't go in costume at all this year but it isn't worth the discomfort while shopping.
>what are your dream guests that you are hoping will get announced the week before AX?
Tbh I'm more interested in the artists who I normally can't purchase from because they're overseas or shipping is stupidly expensive. If I did have to choose, I'd fucking cream if the return of MikuExpo was announced.

Where the fuck are you getting that from? I usually see 3 or 4 people wearing anime t-shirts a week. Just Demon Slayer is outselling the entirety of Marvel Comics. Manga and anime are bona-fide normie shit now.

Also comparing E3 to AX is pretty narrow-sighted to begin with because E3 was always an industry-only trade show making money off an industry that evolved beyond the need for it, whereas AX was always a fan event making money off people who just wanted to be there.

What's your opinion on buying figures at AX? Do you generally avoid it? Is there any benefit other than not paying for shipping? Is the difference in cost really that much to justify running around and waiting in line all day?

>> No.10852702

>>10852695
Entirely depends on price. GSC is one of the more reasonable stalls to get them from and sometimes has exclusive merch. Outside of that, you're likely paying a markup at the third-party reseller stalls. I'd say scales are the best bang for your buck as you won't be paying for the shipping cost and can be fairly reasonable if not marked up massively past the base cost.

I live in Orange County and haven't been to Little Tokyo since the COVID protocols started. Have there been any significant closures? Any recs for Japanese curry? I always went with friends to Curry House for dinner on day 3 and haven't found anywhere comparable.
>>10852695
Depends. If it's an exclusive from a series I care about, I'll make the effort. Otherwise, I can get 90% of the vendor's hall online for cheaper. I usually save my money for AA or the ticketed events.

>> No.10852714

>>10852695
Like the other another said, GSC is one of the better booths to buy from, especially since they always have some form of con exclusive. I try not to buy figures that much these days, aside from maybe some nendoroids that catch my eye. My first AX I bought alot of figures not realizing I could get them cheaper either online or locally like little tokyo/wherever I was stationed at the time. But in short, I'd only really buy figures at AX nowadays if it's something you've been looking for specifically, or something that has limited availability, even online.

Kinda interesting I guess but definitely a far cry from being Guest of Honor material like Katsuhiro Otomo was the year before covid.

once upon a time AX had their shit together enough to announce their guests and concerts by April but looks like we’re in for another year of last minute rushes. Last year by the time stuff I wanted to see was announced, badges were sold out.

I hear rumors that some big seiyuu are coming this year but would rather have a real concert instead of more random macbook DJ stuff that has nothing to do with anime music

Going in the same cosplay group all four days
>what are your dream guests that you are hoping will get announced the week before AX?
Always thought it would be cool to see Anno in person but besides that I'm not interested
>Going to that AX orgy that obviously doesn’t exist?
I'm taken

Question for you anons: my group has always suffered food wise, I threw around the idea of just bringing some stuff to cook at our AirBnb for when we get home but its unlikely anyone will want to cook after being out all day. If you're local to LA/SoCal or get here early enough, you can go to the Fashion/Textile district in Downtown LA. There's a whole street (I think it's Main or Los Angeles Street) that has nothing but menswear stores. Decent stop for cheap suits/tuxes but they also sell the tacky ass suits that Brothas wear, so I'm sure getting a decent red suit like what you pictured wouldn't be too hard there. And it would be an actual suit not like a Halloween costume. Prices shouldn't be too bad either depending on your budget.

A recurring Shin Megami Tensei character named Stephen. In a setting where most of the time spent is either at war with, alongside, or attempting to maneuver around Capital G "God", he's an entity that's an enigma acting in service of the thing that creates said God. He's generally relatively ambiguous beyond pointing the main character in the right direction from time to time, and knowing he's an entity that's consistent between different universes and seems to be able to survive just fine amid innumerable demons that are actively causing the apocalypse in every world they appear in, he's shrouded in tons of mystery.

If you're brave you can also get there by hopping on the Metro at Pico station right across the street and get off at 7th St Metro Center, one stop away, there's a food court underneath the Target, and the Macy's plaza on Flower&7th has a Marugame Udon on the lower level.
Also I highly recommend to just check google maps in detail before you go, I remember my first AX before I lived here I didn't know the area and had no idea how much stuff was within walking distance because the immediate vicinity of LACC is so desolate.

This is my biggest gripe with cosplay photography. Everyone is always saying or showing themselves in video to just walk up to these beautiful locations and not sharing any info about what it takes to be allowed to do that. Thank you anons for asking and answering the important questions.

the con has really shitty surroundings for photos. like, it's concrete, more concrete, and more concrete. there's some greenery near one of the parking garages but everyone uses them to the point its a meme.

if you want to do a photo permit the municipal (city owned/operated) places are a lot cheaper than the private places like the getty. private places will want $$$$ because hollywood. me and a group of friends did band together for one of the private-owned places and it was pretty fucking nice though. lots of cool scenery.

you want public places and not private places. shoot and scoot before they can tell you to gtfo. if you try it in a private place they'll already have their eye on you when you're trying to get through the entry gates. public places you can try during early/late hours where no ones around and any guards will probably be tired too. otherwise pay up for a permit.

if you can band up with some friends for a permit. some of the places will allow for a number of people so you split the fee.

Anime is the one thing that every single group has a stereotype for
>white guy who likes anime - stereotype
>black guy who likes anime - stereotype
>hispanic guy who likes anime - stereotype
>asian guy who likes anime - stereotype
I've also noticed an uptick in Christians who like anime in recent years; I think it has to do with anime still having conventionally-attractive characters and optimistic good vs evil storylines rather than morally-gray and/or cynical shit like a lot of western media. Anime is a wide enough umbrella to either be extremely degenerate, or more wholesome than average depending on what you look for. But this isn't the thread to wax philosophical about that.

Already covered this. Fanime had zero control outside of the con center. People were removing their masks the moment they exited their grounds. People were not wearing masks while eating, partying, in hotel rooms, and hanging out. If there was success it wasn't Fanime's.

How was Fanime? I'm surprised people still showed up for that con with all that shit in 2023. Though it is the Bay Area which is the batshit insane center of the US

Anaheim was the last time Anime Expo was good and felt more indie rather than corporate. People used to play board games, trading card games, and Dance Dance Revolution late at night at the Anaheim Convention Center and the staff did not even care if you fell asleep on the floor afterwards

For an unknown reason, many technology companies, especially Japanese companies, have been hosting large events in Hawaii. For example, the Qualcomm Snapdragon Summit 2023 was held in Maui, Hawaii and Toyota introduced the 2024 Tacoma in Hawaii as well rather than at their Texas headquarters.

Taking this all into consideration, what if Anime Expo ended up being hosted in Hawaii?

Anime Expo is so unprofessional that there is a good chance in the future that Sony pulls a Nintendo by running their own Aniplex convention backed by their own Sony artists and musicians. After all, Sony already has experience hosting events. For example, their camera division has an yearly photography summit. Another example is Sony Pictures doing all those red carpet events every year.

I never order one hamburger at In n Out. I always order 6 double double burgers at the intercom and refrigerate any left over burgers for the following few days and this satisfies any In n Out cravings for around 1 month for me. Why waste money on fries and shakes when you could just order another burger with the money?

If you speak to average Japanese citizens about Japanese musicians living in America, they just criticize them as rich people trying to avoid Japanese taxes yet in the end, these musicians all choose to come home to be buried in Japan like Ryuichi Sakamoto from Yellow Magic Orchestra who lived 30 years in New York

Shaq sure likes selling his houses to Jrock musicians.

>In Beverly Hills Post Office, Japanese singer Kyosuke Himuro just sold Shaquille O’Neal’s former mansion — complete with a golf simulator and Superman-themed basketball court — for $9 million.

>Himuro, the frontman for the 1980s Japanese rock band Boøwy, bought it from the NBA legend in 2004 for $6.4 million and listed it for sale earlier this year at $9.25 million.

I bet more Japanese stars would be interested in flying to Hawaii compared to flying to Los Angeles. Some Japanese creators I follow are willing to spend their vacation in Hawaii yet have zero desire to spend their vacation in California.

This anon has a point. Sony should just buy Anime Expo like how they bought EVO and turn it into a 100% Sony convention. I bet once Anime Expo is 100% owned by a Japanese company, we would have a ton more Japanese creators and singers flying to America.

The reason is that it's a tropical vacation and there are lot of Japanese there. It's both far from Japan but not all the way on the other side of the world. With that said lol no you don't want to go to Hawaii, shit is humid and honestly a pain in the ass. It's ok if you're from Japan because Japan is the same kind of humidity in the summer. I'm sitting in it rn, and it's not even at its worst in June.
