I'm glad they released it early! I've been looking forward to seeing it. The choreography is really interesting and I think it gives the MV lots of rewatchability. I would start with musictheory.net. Andrew Huang also has a whole playlist for learning music theory and production. Next I'd say pick a daw and get a midi keyboard. Andrew Huang has a $10 app if you have an ios device that is really powerful and comparable to ableton. If you have a mac, logic is probably the easiest to pick up. Aside from that, ableton has a 90 day free trial. Even though it has a bit of a learning curve, it's a really powerful program. The ableton website also has a ton of guided courses on music theory and production for free. If you are really on a budget, people have gotten really big using just garageband too. I'm pretty sure pinkpantheress uses garageband and she has millions of plays and a super unique sound. I think Jedwill uses audacity and still has worked with big names in the pop music and DJ scene. It's not necessarily about the tools, but just how you use them. And I honestly wouldn't focus TOO much on theory before starting to make music. Obviously it's extremely helpful, but don't let it hinder your music creation. I'm trying to learn production too and it's not easy but it's really rewarding. Good luck!

I like the cover overall, but the English translyrics make it a bit awkward to listen to. Maybe it's the timing/mixing of the vocals or the lyrics themselves, but they feel like they don't fit the song well. I think it would have been better if they stuck to just the Japanese version.

>> No.10648930

It's not so much about the fans reaching an achievement, but to ensure that the group has enough of a following to justify the amount of time & work that goes into things like new songs, music videos, etc.

There's not a lot of point behind releasing something with that much effort if nobody will watch it. It's the same as small artists using Kickstarter, pre-orders etc to judge if a product is worth making.

I went to a couple of shows on Saturday and they were all pretty good. There wasn’t a bih attendance at any, but the room was also in a weird place. I would have left my response at just that but because of some of the above comments I’ll give a review of the shows I saw.

The first one was the Sona, Jenni, Alex show which I came in late to and caught Sona’s last two songs. She sang one and danced one and both were really impressive. She was very nervous speaking and that was the only flaw. Jenni was next and she was the only one of the three who sang and danced to all of her songs. She had great stamina and was also the most comfortable of the three speaking, which was even more impressive because she never sounded out of breath. She was very fun to watch. Alex was last and as expected was great. She danced the most but that led to her being very out of breath when she sang. She used a back track for a few songs, and I think she could have gotten away with using one for all of them so that she didn’t have to rely on singing live. Both Alex and Jenni had some volume issues, but I couldn’t tell if Sona did in the rest of her set. The had the second biggest turn out of the shows that I saw.

I came back later and saw another 3, Noa, a Rin cosplayer, and iDoll. Noa I came in late for but she was so talented and is the next idol for us to watch. Seriously, look her up, I became an instant fan. The Rin cosplayer was also really talented and she did a Chinese song. I loved it. iDoll was the last I saw, and they had the smallest crowd, maybe 30 people. They were really amazing up until the music cut out and seemed like they were panicking. The crowd started a chant for them while they fixed their music and they recovered well for the rest of that song, but I guess they were shaken up on their second which was a shame because I was looking forward to seeing them.

>> No.10657261

>>10657260
(Same anon, continued)
IDoll did only 2 songs, which was the smallest amount of any that I saw. It was an unfortunate debut, but I hope to see more from them.

The last show I planned to see was the Samii, Nye, Cure show. It started very late so I was only able to see Samii. Her show had great voice overs and she seemed very immersed in her show. I couldn’t hear her voice in her mic for some of it, which is my only critique other than the late start. After she ended, it took them a very long time to switch to the next act, and I had to leave to meet up with my friends so I didn’t see the rest.

I liked all of the performances that I saw and I didn’t see a single song that I would have considered bad. Noa was the talent stand out, but I would say that all of the other acts were comparable.

The one who’s post got traction honestly didn’t surprise me as she’s never been a part of the idol community but she’s been part of a hate train against Grace for a long time. Anyone actually in the community would know that Kuro and Grace aren’t even in the same country...

I don’t know about killer dance but their vocals are really nice. I would really like for them to work on their control and sharpening movements though if they are going to start doing more kpop dances. Not to say they are bad or sloppy, but because they don’t have as much control over themselves as they should or could, the quality of the dance is brought down. The same can be seen in their other kpop cover. It really nice to see groups go out of their normal zones and do something different than the normal jpop and I hope over time Auracle works on improving their dancing for kpop style.

It was a solid entry for them in terms of their outfits, dancing, videography, and editing. It’s nice to see that the quality in that area hasn’t gone down one bit. I think the main thing bogging them down is that the vocals of the original song is a little low for their group’s range, which just makes the cover sound… boring. The focusing issues were relatively minor throughout the whole video. Some of the cuts were unmotivated and didn’t flow well, but I’m going to be honest and say my expectations aren’t high for most of these idol groups because they don’t have the budget, time, or experience typically for a better team.

I think in general, a solo idol can only be interesting if they have decent vocal and dance skill but also unique branding or visuals. So in short, don't be a cliché and you're automatically interesting.

I mean we know most of these idols either can’t, or won’t, put in the funds for their stuff, and a lot of them make their own. I honestly can appreciate an idol who goes at it with whatever resources they have. They are interesting to me, and I like seeing what they usually can put out.
I’d like paida a little more, but she’s a bit inconsistent and honestly after hearing her album, she’s a tad bit overhyped.
Ayumi is cool, but she’s way too much of the typical “I’m here to make you smile!” type of idol and it comes off as a little fake…. Her song makes up for it though.

Mainly, I wish people were consistent with posting. There’s one idol I was looking forward to seeing this year, but they’ve been on hiatus, posting sporadically.

What about those who just want to have themselves as a brand and not necessarily a theme of some sort? Like Phoebe is another idol that's just pink and girly. Would you say idols with actual unique themes is a better or more entertaining choice than those who just brand as "self"?

>> No.10664422

>>10664418
From how I see it, soloists typically wouldn't choose a random theme just to be different, it's usually an extension of their own personality or interests. I'm not saying Ayumi or others who go the generic cutesy pink route aren't being themselves, I'm just saying as *personal opinion* it's not my cup of tea simply because it's harder to pinpoint the individualism in it most of the time.

Same anon but an example of what I mean is, soloists whose image colors are blue for example, don't usually have any similarities between other blue idols, same goes for other colors, it's only pink there seems to be a constant stereotype or trope thats played by idols who have pink image colors. (Being cute, soft, only wanting to make you smile, etc.) it's just generally less unique overall, especially with how common those tropes are in even anime. Power to those who enjoy that type of thing though!

/Tokyo Idol Festival
A group called Neonism from Syd got selected for a super big name Idol Festival in Tokyo.
I did a little digging because I’m a fan of Amuse from the same country: Neonism has one original song which is half overture, they’re recent YouTube Live that was posted here got 9 views on average. They’re Instagram has like 250 followers and they’re YouTube even less?
Seems a bit fishy honestly. I wouldn’t put them on the same level their Brisbane counterpart at all.

Someone in the idol community had created an original song, but they stole the title and concept from me without offering any credit. They begrudgingly did after I pestered them about it, but I'm still mad about it just because their whole attitude was really shitty... Same anon about the song as before. I didn't think so many people would reply so I'll try to address everyone at once instead of individually replying. I apologize if I end up missing something.

Part of the song lyrics had been written years ago, but after the group we were part of disbanded, I thought everything from the group had been deleted. I didn't realize that she had held onto everything.

I recognize the lyrics a good 70% of the lyrics in the song, some was obviously different, but I can't say for certain if those old lyrics were mine because it's been so long. The lyrics were a collaborative effort as well, so it could very well have been I had the idea for what a line could communicate and she wrote it out and vice versa. It's a grey area which is why I'm not claiming total ownership for the lyrics.

I understand you may think a title and concept don't contribute anything important to a song, but if that were really the case, then why couldn't she create a song without using my idea?

I'm trying to ride off her coat tails. I create original songs as well. By her stealing my ideas, those are ideas I can't use anymore.

I understand there's nothing I can do about now at this point though so I'll let it go like you say. Thanks for the input everyone.

Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do. Credit was given even if it was begrudgingly. There’s no way to copyright or trademark a concept or title due to how easy it’d be for someone else to have the same thing. Even if she’s wrong morally, it was still a project she worked on and helped with which, if you shared, she really has every right to.

Also want to point this out: riding by someone else’s coattails will get you nowhere. If anything it makes you look more scummy and makes it look like you can’t do the work yourself.

I love Starting Line, and the race motif is cute, but that's not a unique enough concept to have any real claim over it or the work that went into the song. You had a cute idea that didn't pan out, and years later Ayumi did the actual work of turning it into a cute debut song. Sorry, but this is petty. Work on developing those good ideas into full products, and then if someone steals those, you have grounds to complain.
