The original is from Japanese indie brand And Romeo, I remember seeing a gull talk about how she managed to track a real one down but it wasn't worth it because it's been replicated so much that the design is now automatically associated with Amazon itas.

not them but i hate (and sometimes throw away) freebies too. i’m not going to regift a teabag that someone has regifted to me (especially when it isn’t wrapped, which happens). nobody i know wants random anime girl stickers. or a single plastic hairclip.

freebies are burdensome and if feels like the seller is just trying to get rid of stuff they don’t want. i’ve made hundreds of lolita purchases and can count on one hand the number of freebies i’ve happily kept. the rest are probably in a landfill or a recycling plant.

Something that matches the bought item. I've gotten obviously sweet tights and accessories with obviously gothic dresses and I don't understand what the sellers were thinking. It comes across as the seller just trying to get rid of stuff they don't want. I've also gotten snacks, tea singles and skincare stuff, they were a bit hit or miss. What I like most is cute cards or thank you notes, it can even be something as small as a handwritten post it note or a quick doodle, those always warm my heart.

check what material it is then use fabric dye over the whole thing.

If there's no label, then you can test to see if it's synthetic or not using a small donor scrap from it (if you can take some from an inconspicuous area anyway). If it melts it's probably a synthetic, if it catches and turns ashy then it's a natural fabric like cotton.

And Romeo just has a Rakuten shop last I checked, you can just buy it and all their other dresses from there. Not sure if they're on Rakuten Global so you may need an SS, but it's not some kind of archivement to buy from them to go over like "look what I managed to do" kek. Rakuten is like Japanese Amazon/TaoBao. I heard their dresses are rather nice in person tho, and their chiffon design looks a bit more modern despite also being old by now and is less replicated.

Freebies I've kept / enjoyed
>a pair of Btssb hairclips that matched the colors of the JSK I bought
>a NWT taobao blouse
>a badge that could coord with the items I bought
>a full sleeve of pastel bobby pins
>extra cabochons, sprinkles, etc. from craft supply sellers
>candy, SOMETIMES (if it's a kind that doesn't melt, make a mess, or get ruined by moisture)

But there's definitely a pattern of what I've kept and what I've thrown away. If it matches what I bought, chances are good I'll like it or have some use for it. But if it's just some random crap, it's going in the trash.

For example there are certain styles Secret Shop used to make that barely have any altered design elements and are hard to tell real from replica unless you either know the design really well or are looking in-person (for example I have 1 pair that's from them and 2 of the real thing in other colors and apart from the logo on the sole there is only one tiny detail different that you'd hardly notice).

When it comes to the non-print design replica ones like the ubiquitous Baby seethrough socks I think a lot of people are just super sick of them, too, so it's the tackiness of a replica on top of them usually being coorded poorly.

I'm a size 7 in us men's which is honestly really small and a bit hard to find in brick and mortar stores, but I looked it up and the average male height in Japan is about 3 inches shorter than the average american male's height and foot size often correlates with shoe size so logically... Japanese men's shoes may be more skewed towards a smaller size range? It's all about the styling.

An all black sweet coord can still have cutesy makeup, hair, accessories, tea parties, etc (pink blush, pigtails with frilly bows, standard heart bags, etc)

Gothic is the same. Darker dramatic makeup, darker accessory motifs of religious iconography, roses, skulls, etc. that wouldn't fit sweet. Gothic lolita colors tend to be jewel tones.

Look through Lolibrary for dresses from MMM and Atelier Pierrot. The styling is significantly different than what sweet does.

Still debating between Sweet/Classic/Gothic.
>sweet is the most relaxed with makeup and high heels, but I’m worried about the off-white parts turning to cream over time which doesn’t look good with pastel colors, and the issue of matching if they degrade at a different rate, and the sweet seems the most demanding in terms of having the right facial featurers (and height but I’m 5ft, so)
>classic has generally higher-quality clothes, and yellowing isn’t as big of an issue anyways, and it’s the most versatile of the three, but I’m worried about having to always wear heavy makeup to avoid looking like some kind of super religious person, and the high heels which aren’t good for my legs long-term
>gothic is very easy with colors, as I could just re-dye the washed up black, and/or use appropriate laundry products to prolong their useability, but gothic makeup seems really heavy, and I’m not sure how to avoid being confused for a western goth and getting shit from them for not actually being one, and the heels are enormous sometimes, I haven’t ever been a goth, but I think the gothic lolita is the most interesting of the three, sad I wasn’t wearing it during its golden age
But really, I like all of them, and keep bouncing between the three constantly.
I should probably stop thinking about it too much, and just put my first coord together, right?
It’s probably going to be sweet, since it’s trending right now, and thus, easiest to acquire clothes for.

Doesn't have to be kek

You should practice for a while first and see what you are good at and what the market looks like. Try to see what you enjoy doing the most, then work on improving that particular craft and develop your own style and theme that's unique on the lolita market. It seems like a tall order but trust me, if you practice enough you'll be able to figure it out. More specifically to your question, open social media first, join some events either online or in person, and open up shop maybe after drumming up some interest. The more, the better, as long as you can keep them all going - most people have IG, Facebook, and twitter. Tiktok is cursed, but small businesses can go viral on it so it is a good option. Opening up your shop during an event guarantees customers right away but comes at the risk of not being the most adept at Etsy and potentially getting an influx of buyers you didn't expect. That being said, Etsy despite being a little clunky is fairly easy to operate so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Good luck!

Although if the pattern costs more than the product and I only want one/a few, I'd probably just buy. Sorry for being a newfag, but what's the process of making a new sticky? I would love to contribute towards the effort of making a more fleshed out sticky. Maybe even something like the buyfag FAQ would be helpful. I feel like it would have to be pretty robust to service all three aspects of /cgl/ though -- like lolita, larp/historical/military, and cosplay. It would be nice to have a reason to cut down on the same frequently asked questions.

I haven't followed the store much. But I remembered seeing it last time I checked on there still, which was already ages after release. Seems gone now indeed. Some other dresses from around the same release period are still listed tho, so I wouldn't say being super old means much at that store when it comes to if they're still selling it to not. They keep the same designs for a long time.

Their burgundy rococo dress is kinda nice tho.

Similar to any platform really? Just with these shoes, land your feet a bit more flat so you step onto the beginning of the sole instead of the cutout. Honestly I feel it's easier than regular platforms, with the front being so curved. You can use that to round off your steps much like you do on heels with platforms.

See pic related for a bad photoshop example of it.

>> No.10618144

Stupid question for the stupid questions thread: when buying according to measurements, if something says "max bust [some number]" without the flat measurements, how do you get a good idea of a minimum measurement? As in, if I'm over that number it'll be too small, but how do I know at what point it will be significantly too big? Is there any guideline like no more than some number of inches smaller than the maximum?

>> No.10618378

>>10618144
I feel like minimum is way harder to say and depends on what kinds of adjustment the piece has (is it shirred, does it have corset lacing, waist ties?). Also depends on the tag size, and the brand (for an idea of their general measurements).

For example if I was looking at a dress with shirring and corset lacing that's tagged as a size M I would assume that the unlaced, unstretched flat measurement would fit about an 85cm bust and a 66cm waist, because that's the general measurement that brand size M tends to be fitted for. Now, how much can you take it IN with the corset lacing? How far can you stretch it OUT with shirring? That's a different question and depends entirely on how the dress is made.

I think the best solution here is to ask fellow lolitas their experiences and also, although not easy, just get to know what brands work for you via your own experience.
