Too many lolitas keep trying to dress up "iconic" prints in some effort to flex. I don't think they get that some dresses just shouldn't be "overdressed", Misty Sky is one of those that always looks a lot worse whenever anyone tries to dress it up.

In reality all you needed to flex with Misty Sky is to wear it plain as-is, it's one of AP's shortest dresses (~89cm iirc) with a high waist, so (a)wearing it without any extra shit proves you're one of the Lolita's gods' chosen with perfect proportions for wearing lolita, and (b)adding anything bigger to it makes the print surface much smaller. So actually it looks uglier as most of the coordinate now becomes plain blank blue or white surfaces and people can't pay attention to the sky print, that ugly bag is even blocking most of it if you look at her outfitt from the wrong angle.

Dress-on-dress was started originally by a small-sized Japanese girl (she had a blog, but I forget whether it's ameblog or yaplog). We're talking an idea so old and so original, by the time the idea reached egl.livejournal.com the hype print at that time was Rose Toilette. The girl in question was small-sized even for Japanese sizing, so she layered her dresses and skirts so that they didn't hang too loosely off her small frame. She liked to layer the same print in different colourways, it's an interesting effect.

Sorry, but it's not a new idea. It was even discussed on cgl some time ago. Whichever influencer you think invented it, obviously didn't.

My family does "celebrations of life" instead of "funerals" and my grandma actually asked me to wear one of my dresses to it because it makes her happy, at a time where I only owned and wore sweet. When the time finally comes, I'll probably wear something like that again to my grandma's funeral because I know it would make her happy then too. Can't think of another family member I would do this for, however.

No, this is a very good example of why you do not cheap out and get some shitty cheap dress from Amazon/aliexpress/milanope/random taobao. The lace is visibly shitty even at this distance and the fabric is so bad, that's why it's so wrinkled, and even the wrong side of the hems is visible. Coupled with the terrible fit these dresses often end up with.

I'd say it isn't homemade because the fit is terrible. I get that someone might have sewn up a commercial pattern without test-fitting, but this cut looks like it's directly copied from a couple of brand dresses. Whoever made this dress cared enough to put in pintucks and shitty lace but didn't care that it makes her body look like a sausage ready to burst.

Oh, and the socks. If you're chubby, it's probably a good idea to stay away from stripes like these, they really emphasise how wide her legs are. On top of the tea party shoes thing.

I wore a plain black IW dress for my grandmothers funeral. Her favourite colours were pink and purple (and now they’re mine). I suggested for people to wear a pink or purple accent as they were the colours she always wore. I wore my pink tea parties and coat. It was lovely to see her “colours” on everyone via ties, shoes, blouses. Lolita items can have their place anywhere and everywhere, some people just lack better judgement.
