Can you wear some Lolita skirts/dresses styled as himekaji since they’d be a little shorter on you? Or is that dumb?

There’s also some off brand stuff that can work. I feel like it’d be possible to do, just more difficult and require a lot more hunting

I love lolita but always end up feeling kinda overdressed, unfortunately, even if I only wear gothic. None of my closest friends wear it (aside from one, once in a blue moon), so I end up feeling "too much", no matter how much I love seeing myself in it.
Out of lolita I'm a bit of a mess and constantly exploring. My wardrobe was mostly black and red and has been slowly expanding to other colors but I like keeping a certain "edge" (pleathers, chains, big buckles, platforms, etc).
Recently, my gf has been on a cutesy jfashion shopping spree and casually roping me into her princessy fantasies... at first I sorta brushed it off but she started gifting me some pieces... and oh no, I think I like the cute.
We're getting a few Dear My Love and Honey Cinnamon matching pieces, and she keeps looking for clothes among those lines. Liz Lisa, Ank Rouge, etc.

I'd love to surprise her with something so, could I ask for opinions on which cutesy jfashion brands you guys would recommend regarding quality/longevity/value, etc? Or simply your favorite brands/shops.

Thank you!

This is probably going to be controversial but I'll say it anyway because I think it's really cool to see new fashions emerge. Jirai kei is definitely the new alt/niche fashion coming out of Japan, along with mass-production kei and Peep girls based on this article from last year from Rakuten's lab Rakuma (who bought out fril marketplace). https://lab.fril.jp/jk_summer_fashion_2020

Jirai kei and mass-production got popular enough for Dear My Love and Wego to market it. Pic related from Dear My Love.

Article from Lafary about Jirai (aka Lamdmine/Mine woman)
https://www.lafary.net/fashion/59180/

Google translate of Landmine and Mass-production fashions:

"<Mine-based fashion>
'Mine-based' fashion features black items centered on monotone and mine-based makeup that emphasizes teary eyes and teardrops with red eyeshadow. It is described as "darkness is cute" and is also called "Menhera fashion" in a style that expresses "a person who looks cute but the contents are sick".
When I interviewed a JK user of "Rakuma", "I think that" mine system "has spread among underground idol fans. In particular, that chan of the former" You'll Melt More ", who is popular as a" sick idol ". Isn't that the reason for the boom? "

"<Mass production type fashion>
'Mass production type' fashion has permeated mainly the female college student (JD) generation due to the fashion of fast fashion, but for the JK generation, "mass production type" fashion is more narrowly defined by Johnny's fans. It refers to the so-called "mass-produced otaku" fashion that has spread around people.
Items with frills and ribbons and mini backpacks are standard, and the colors are beige, white, and pink, which are cute and feminine styles, and are popular among teens. According to a survey of "favorite idol artists" (N = 761) conducted for teenage women in April last year, "Johnny's" (36.1%) was the most popular user, so "mass production" fashion is JK. No wonder it's popular with."

The pandemic’s claimed another premium ladieswear brand. Lodispotto sub-brand Mille Fille Closet just announced its closure:

>Thank you for your continued patronage of mille fille closet. This time, mille fille closet said, "We have 20 collections and will be suspended. We are sorry for the sudden announcement. We made our debut in July 2017 and it has been three and a half years. We hope you all love the brand. I was able to grow. From now on, I will continue to provide cute clothes at LODISPOTTO, which was the catalyst for the birth of Mille. Thank you for your continued support. I will continue to "cute" in everyone's hearts. "Mille fille closet by LODISPOTTO Send message"

I love Millefille and I am sad ;_; I’ve only ever bought one dress on a 70% price cut and everything else secondhand, but the quality is head and shoulders above Lodispotto in terms of attention to detail and fabric choices.

I think it’s been a difficult niche to occupy over the past year when a lot of brands have segued into loungewear. Even Liz Lisa’s been selling more hoodie/sweaters/roomwear lol. Onespo closed recently too which surprised me a bit because they were still appearing at every TGC.
