What's the best way to practice makeup techniques (contouring etc.) without making everyone you meet think you're a bit weird? Especially when it comes to judging my work's long-term viability (e.g. holding up all day during a con), I'm not sure how I should be approaching this.

I've found that most people at cons and such tend to be the live-and-let-live type - so long as you aren't acting like you're hot shit when you're just kinda shitty, you shouldn't get too much trouble. If you're walking around in a generally mediocre costume of any type, though, don't expect praise for it - you're basically just part of the background noise at that point, so don't think much of it when nobody pays you much attention.

There's plenty of bearded sailor moons out there already, so as long as you don't manage to pull something especially terrible you'll be fine.

Not gonna lie you have it pretty hard.

You wouldn't look like an idiot if you chose some female character in full armor, but you might just look like a dude in full armor. At least it's not cringe. Yeah I was working from home and it took nearly 20 hours. Took a lot of breaks and my face got dried out by the glow in the dark paint I was using on the mask I painted. But yeah like a full 24 hours passed at least to finish doing my facial hair. It really did feel perfect and the smoothness I have now is nice but really patchy. Its easy as heck to shave though!!

I do NOT recommend it for just anything. I did it because I wanted to remain hairless from Thursday to Sunday. Unneeded unless you're going away and wanna be hairless the entire week. Its an extremely painful experienxe that will take all your power to not give up especially if your beard can get thick like mine (used to?).

I'm no cutie, I think I get misgendered for the wrong reason. I'm pretty sure I get confused for a butch lesbian rather than a cute grill, I don't have the build or the hair but I think I just have that kind of femininely boyish face. When I tell people I'm a boy they ask me if I was born a boy/if I have boy parts. I'm not sure I could effectively cosplay an anime girl, I just always look androgynous no matter what I do. I've never been able to cut a wig properly so maybe that's the key that I'm missing but I feel like it would just drown my face.

I promised my friend I'd wear lolita (brolita for me) with her after the pandemic. Since vaccine is coming I thought I'd start looking into it now. Most wigs, like the one you've shown, aren't ready to use out of the box, the hair is much longer than what you want, but this is for a good reason: it has to be this long for you to be able to cut it and style it to match the character you want.

Search how to cut and style wigs on YouTube. If you are cosplaying a popular character you can usually find a tutorial for it. Otherwise, just search for the generic hair style. Here's a very basic tutorial: https://youtu.be/qS3vYS7NcoQ?list=PLhX3xUBGEtrnNXOYYYiE8jlREZYkdphb3

I have a little bit experience in “normal” crossdressing but I’m far away to being an expert. My questions are:
Where can I find a good wig and how much money you would invest?
Where to buy shoes for Lolita fashion in man size?
Do you were a bra with little silicon breasts or do you think it is not necessary ?
Thank you for you help an cheers

>> No.10518718

>>10518544
>Where can I find a good wig and how much money you would invest?
Depends on your head circumference. Passable lolita wigs can be bought at 20-30 bucks with lots of air upwards for quality purchases. If your head is rather big, you want to be extra careful to buy wigs with big enough wigcaps, both for wearing comfort and looks.

>Where to buy shoes for Lolita fashion in man size?
Depends on your shoe size. Sizes above EU 41/42 will become harder to purchase. Antaina or Angelic Imprint on Taobao are well known for making custom orders for shoes.

>Do you were a bra with little silicon breasts or do you think it is not necessary ?
Padding is usually not necessary unless you really want/need it. There are very few specific dress cuts that may look slightly better with some filling, but otherwise you're completely fine without.

Second day we were all looking at some table and heard a fairly girthy man behind say something about "you girls look way better than those sailor guys". We all heard it, turned around to see the guy taking a picture of a group of girl scouts. Said something to the guy, and he fucked off when we all started talking to the girl scouts. They loved it and thought it was great seeing male sailor scouts.

I ordered a gaffe from Hidden Candy Boutique all the way back in July 2020, but it still hasn't shipped. It seemed like they were swamped with orders for a while, since they flat-out stopped accepting requests for quite some time, but they've started taking orders again and I still don't have the product I paid for. I tried getting in touch in October, but all I got was a message with "your product will be ready in a few weeks," and yet, a few weeks later, no product arrived.

Shapewear, ideally some sort of full length faja. Serves the same basic function except it's intended for genuine modern every day use. Personally also wear a waist cincher that has elastic around the mid point of the waist because the full body faja doesn't pull the waist in well on its own, but for your purposes that may not be needed.
Plus you have to pad your hips. I don't care what anyone has to say about it, as a male, outside of freak genetic anomalies, you will not have the hip width to attain a proper hourglass figure, as "hourglass" comes from the contrast of width between hips and waist, not just waist width and not just hip width. You need both. Even if you're technically cosplaying a male character, again, hourglass is contrast, not just pulling one body part in or out.

It's the exact opposite.

Cosplay is a valuable cultural good for japan and important for their campaign of exporting japanese culture into the world. The goverment fears the strict copyright laws might impede the further growth of popularity as cosplayers could get in trouble for commiting to it. This does not necessarily count for those who do it in private, but moreso for the group of people who participate in contests or upload photos on social media.

Basically, they're trying to work out a law for fair use specifically for cosplayers to make sure they won't get in trouble for it.

If google isn't lying to me, this isn't about "In private vs. uploaded to 'social media'", it's about "People cosplaying for fun" vs "People who make shit tons of cash on cosplaying other people's IP." When it comes to this shit it's always a matter of money (aside from the extremely rare cases a company is particularly vindictive. Which even Nintendo, who are infamous for this shit, in their own backwards way only go after things they believe will directly impede on products they want to sell, ie AM2R when Metroid: Samus Returns was in development.)
They're going after the people who literally just put on a wig and some cheap aliexpress costume, pose for the camera and post it to instagram or wherever, and rack in the dough from getting sponsored and other such things. Not the guy who makes a hand made costume and goes to his local anime convention.

Enako also mentioned in her tweet about the rights of characters she cosplayed have been granted by copyright holders.

is this bait from the last time someone asked this?

no, it does not magically crush your body thinner just from wearing it now and then and stay that way once removed. don't you think many many women would do this if so?

yes, if you wore it daily for extended periods (weeks/months) the fact that you'd probably eat less while wearing it would probably add up to weight loss and slimming down that way.

if you want a more defined silhouette you need to leave it on to retain the effect. You can look into waist training in order to wear them underneath clothes while dramatically shaping your figure (as in it would stay on underneath the costume/outfit, so you'd need to waist train below the bulk added by the corset as well). there are some designed still as actual underwear vs fancy/thick ones, usually with mesh between the boning to keep them more breathable. but it would still be an uncomfortable process if you're not used to it.

if you don't need that much of a reduction and it will be hidden by clothes, you could try layering women's shapewear as well.

I'm planning on purchasing a corset so I don't have firsthand experience, but the corset resources I've read say there won't be any physical alterations to the body at least not for a while. Even then, it's not major alterations unless you corset tight and for long enough that you depend on the corset to support you. Remember, skin and fat shift so just compressing it for a while won't really change how its distributed on your body. If your crossplaying someone with the stomach exposed you could make a "corset" that compresses the stomach but has cloth that imitates your skin. (Similar to how some cosplayers use tights and long gloves in green or gray for green or grey skinned characters) If the character has lots of skin showing and wears something like bikini armor, then looking like a sexy anime girl will take more than a corset.

>> No.10557967

Let's talk about what corsets do and don't do. Ratchet-ass photoshop attached.

If you're a guy, corsets will reduce your waist 2-3 inches, a bit more than you might get from sucking your gut in. You can get more reduction than this, but that requires corset training- a time consuming process that you can look up elsewhere if you're interested. The major benefit that you see from a corset is that it changes your silhouette by pulling in your sides by making your waist more of a circle- see ratchet-ass photoshop. This shape of waist does not look good with most types of clothing- you mostly want to wear it with a dress or period-style clothing.

Corsets don't permanently change your shape. Unless you've worn one from a young age and it shaped your skeleton as you grew- like anon mentioned above.

Corsets restrict the way you move. you don't bend at the waist when you wear one. They can also be uncomfortable, especially after a few hours of wearing one. To get the most comfortable corset with the most reduction, you'll need to get one custom made. $$$

Unless you're going for a period-style outfit that requires a corset to look good, you're probably better off with some shapewear & pads. It'll be more comfortable, you can move & breathe more easily, and you'll still be able to build a feminine silhouette. Unlike the guy in my terrible illustration.

Something to add about padding, unless you're wearing something that hides that area of the body (really poofy dress around the waist that hides the hips for example), don't only either wear shapewear around the waist or pad out the hips, you have to do both. Waist size and hip size are a matter of the ratio between the two, having both makes the feminine hips seem larger / feminine waist smaller. Only padding/wearing shapewear on one or the other won't do it enough to get a decent silhouette, unless you just have really wide hips and/or tiny rib cage for a guy to start with.
>>10558352
There's a large amount of "Big boobs = better" going on with availability in the market, but there's also something to be said about the fact that men on average have larger rib cages then women do. Meaning that small boobs on large chest looks disproportionate and awkward when you're already fighting against the masculine form to crossplay. It's easier to make larger boobs seem proportional on a larger ribcage, and conversely large boobs on an absolutely tiny ribcage can look equally as absurd as the inverse. Gotta work with what you have unfortunately, and unless you just have a tiny ribcage and torso generally, small boobs aren't going to look great.

The world ends with you, Joshua cosplayer? You better bring a good wig and makeup to be recognized, along Mr Mew or pins. It would work better as a group cosplay with a well known character in costume, his base clothes are too plain, L-tier, to pull off nicely.

Consider the Reaper NPCs, Hanekoma or even Beat. Uzuki Yashiro would be the easiest pick for crossplay.

Wear pantyhose under the socks next time to even out your leg complexion.

I would recommend drawing your eyebrows further towards the center. They start really abruptly and could be blended better even for cosplay makeup. Your eye makeup also I think could be more natural, right now the cat eye look is a little drag queeny, it’s exaggerating the depth of your browbone which is a masc feature.

Watch some tutorials on facial feminization makeup and natural looking eyebrow pencilling.

Finally.. do not let your belly hang out over your skirt waistband tuck that shit in girl..

After saying I was gonna do it eventually a long time ago, went and finally got a Roanyer breast plate, the "Normal" G cup they sell for $99 (Was ~$210 after adding the silicone and shipping). It's too small for my frame so they look a touch absurd, and the colour was slightly off for my skin tone, but overall for a first time buy, not too disappointed. Just wish they had the Medium G cups available when I bought these, as by their measurements, that one should fit far better than this one, and it released literally a week or so after I ordered the ones I have now.

These eyeliners on the right are too dark a shade for a Ranma cosplay right?

>> No.10616186

>>10616139
If I'm being frank with you anon I don't think you should be using purple eyeliner. That is black eyeliner with a very thin line of purple eyeshadow on top.
You can achieve the same effect by mixing an eye-safe purple pigment (loose or compressed, personally I prefer loose because it's purer due to a lack of a binding agent but I know that doesn't travel well) with something like Nyx's mixing medium. Apply with an eyeliner brush. A pigment + a mixing medium will also be a more versatile addition to your makeup kit than an unusually colored eyeliner you'll only use once. You'll also be able to find more shades and finishes.
I think when choosing a shade you also should take your complexition into account. If you're extemely fair skinned you may want to err on the slightly lighter side

What are some pros and cons on using a ronayers ( or any other brand that sells female body suits ) body suit? I've been thinking on buying one

>> No.10634789

>>10634308
One word: Sweat. Can only speak for just the breast plate, but after wearing that for even just an hour or so, the sweat buildup underneath was absurd to the point moisture was showing through clothes around the bottom edge of the silicone. I'd imagine if you're remotely prone to sweating under even slightly less than comfortable conditions, you're going to end up with a pool of sweat coming out of the legs and arms, or pooling in there if either are enclosed.
Otherwise, if Ronayers full body suits are anything like their breast plates, they have nice skin texture and the overall quality is pretty ok, but if you're going for a fullbody suit I think shooting for their seam removal finishing service would be a good investment.
Pro's are pretty obvious, more flexibility for outfits that show skin as you don't have to worry about where breast plates or girdles start and end. Though it'll probably work far better for you if you're not some level of fat and require shapers to get your body down to a at least semi-decent shape like I do, given you don't have as much in the way of layers to play with given we're trying to remove mass where we don't want it, not add it.
Though, along with the sweat, you're sticking yourself inside a tight nearly full body silicone tube. It's gonna be fun getting in and out of that I'm sure. If you don't plan on wearing super revealing costumes, it may not be worth it, but if you REALLY want a seamless look top to bottom (sans head) without having to worry about cutoffs, no matter the outfit, it's probably worth looking into.
