Within the past year prices of AP accessories have completely sky-rocketed... I bought my Milky-Chan bag on CC for ~$50 and my Chick-Chan bag was ~$120 from Mercari (which I thought was overpriced at the time). As much as I love them, I would never pay this much? People say sweet is dead, but a lot of items are being sold at collector prices. Even plastic jewelry is $200 for a necklace and a ring at this point... on Japanese secondhand sites. Kind of scared of this trend.

Who is saying sweet is dead...? It's still reigning as the most popular substyle by far

>> No.10352906

Sorry - I probably mean more that OTT sweet is dead. A lot of anons seem to dislike OTT sweet and I associate these types of stuffed bags with OTT.

>> No.10352909

Anons, I'll be going to a big lolita event for the first time. Aside from this I've only ever gone to small local meets at coffee shops.
An overseas indie brand designer will be at it and they're accepting model applications. I really like this brand and probably won't ever see it in person again so I thought it'd be a nice experience to try. However, since it's my first big event and I don't know when I'll get to attend another one, I don't know if it'd be worth it to take time away from simply enjoying the event to model, especially since I've heard it's a process that eats a lot of time.
Those who have modeled at events before, would you say it's worth it to make it in or should I just enjoy the experience from the sidelines since I may not get to again?

>> No.10352912

>>10352909
Modeling sucks, I'll never do it again. It's suffering. There's no point unless you love yourself more than anything else in the world. Ok maybe do it once but never again.

>> No.10352914

I’ve noticed that most all older OTT sweet is going up in price, not just accessories. I paid $200 to get back a dress I had sellers regret on that I had trouble selling for $85 a couple years ago. I wonder who is surging the demand, though, because I haven’t seen any coords with this stuff being posted really at all lately.

>> No.10352915

I also did it one time and wouldn't ever do it again. I wasn't particularly interested in most of the con, but I also didn't enjoy standing around in a room, not really eating, for most of the day. I don't regret it though, so it can't hurt to apply and try it once to see if you like it. Just bring something to occupy yourself...

>> No.10352919

>>10352914
I've wondered if I had a role in surging demand at all or if it's just a collective whole. I bought one necklace for $100 that was a long time wishlist item, and it seemed like over night Japanese sellers started listing higher. One of my dream dresses (which I bought 2 years ago for $200) was on yahoo.jp just a week or two ago, for $800, in the worst colorway. I'm not sure anyone bought it, but it really surprised me.

I've had a lot less fun shopping on the secondhand markets lately since older, sweet AP feels so overpriced. I don't know if the market will go back down or if this is the future. It makes me sad, since very little of what AP releases now interests me. The last good release was Toy Doll Box and the Toy Fantasy MTO.

While my wardrobe feels 4x more valuable now, I don't really care. I just want to buy sweet items without feeling gutted.

You’ll probably find more help in the stupid questions thread, that’s a thread that’s a lot more willing to help with stuff this handholdy. But a few notes are

-if you can talk to her friends who know about her lolita wishlist/taste ask them for help
-unless you find out her wishlist and get a dress off of there it’s reallt easy to go wrong with buying pieces
-while it leaves out the surprise element, you can insure she gets something she’ll love by making a card that works as a voucher for “one free dress” from you.

As a lolita, I have never had a non lolita successfully give me a lolita related gift.

At least for me, the problem with Lor and Tyler is not so much the content of their videos as them. I just don't find their personalities particularly engaging. I'll occasionally watch Tyler because she seems like a nice person and I'm sometimes interested in the stuff she's covering, but it's sad that she's one of the top lolita bloggers because content of the same standard would not be this glorified in other hobbies.

For Lor I guess it's kind of a double-whammy I'm either not interested in her topics or I'm not interested in her take on it because I don't really respect her opinion.

Tbh really anything current is nice. Especially if it's not drama and/or people thinking they have to put out there opinion on things going on in the lolita communities (i don't like that at all, which is why I'm not fond of rosenocturnalia/tyler/lor). I really just want fun lolita content, not drama and pettiness, if that makes sense. If she had actually gone to bunka like she wanted she'd have had a chance to do interesting stuff with it.

Sucks things never panned out for her, but not everyone ends up living their dreams I guess. Maybe we should start a thread for old lolita content we miss? Then new creators might see it and be inspired to make things part of the community wants.

This is actually a fair point. There's very little to be gained from being a lolita youtuber. The community is so small that your absolute best-case scenario is reaching Lor's size, and Lor still has under 100k subscribers so the monetary rewards just aren't really there. And sure, you can do it "for the love of the community", but all you're going to get in return from the community is snark and shitstirring.

Really, I can see why people with actual talent might be reluctant to enter the fray. The print itself is disappointing. The artwork has the potential to be cute but going for highlighting the vertical stripes and using contrasting colors in the way that they did they made it either harder to coord or more versatile to coord depending on how skilled you are.

It'll be really easy to have a bad coord even if you're not usually an ita because of the print imo. I was hoping for more of a cotton candy shop or lyrical bunny type print where there are vertical accents but more focus along the border like a lot of OTT sweet.

Same. These shoes are gorgeous but even though I can afford it's just not justified to spend that much on shoes. Maybe it could even be added to an existing lolita platform like Lolibrary? People could submit their own coords using certain items. If nothing else, I think I'm going to start tagging my posts with print and item names, and I hope you guys will consider it too!

So for me, 20% of my income (+100% of overtime money) goes directly into saving for a house, 40-45% goes towards bills, 20% goes towards food costs including eating out, and 10-15% to lolita. The rest goes towards personal care and misc. hobbies.

It would be nice if people could submit their own and you could like/upvote the results so they'd be sorted with the most popular first. I don't think low-quality coords should be moderated because a shit coord can still give you a good idea of the materials and fit of the item. Users should be able to report a submission for being under the wrong item name, a replica, explicit, or posted without their permission, but there shouldn't be downvotes/dislikes - it would discourage submissions. Showing only the best of the best sounds like a good idea when you're thinking of Honey Cake or whatever, but when you get to some obscure oldschool dress it's better to have a shit coord available than nothing at all. That's my ideal scenario.

When I was in Japan, visiting CC's every day, I also still watched the site. Same day uploads rarely had things I saw in stores. I think the model is more, "if we can sell this quick, don't list it online," then wait and list it when it doesn't sell. But most new stock appearing online is, in fact, new.

I was actually disappointed that the stores had barely anything that wasn't online, but it comforted me that I wasn't missing out on too much.

That is the opposite of my experience shopping regularly instore over many years so idk what to tell you. There are many items sold instore that are never uploaded online because they are gone within a few days/weeks after twitter hyping as >10357233 described. Items uploaded on the online store have always been items I’ve seen hanging around instore longer. You can also see that they wait about two weeks after twitter hyping an item to put it on the online store if it doesn’t sell if you’re watching closely.

I wish this didn't have the MmM logo on it, I think it would be much nicer without.

How long does it usually take Baby SF to send out reservation items? I preordered most of the accessories from the Devil Cat series, and it's up on their site for normal order. But my order hasn't shipped? They usually have very quick turnaround with stuff that's in stock so I'm worried it fell through the cracks.
