When will my dream dress return from the war?

>> No.10350250

So what did people think of Tyler's replica video? I had some issues with it.

First, she made it sound like the lolita comm in general is fine with design replicas. There has definitely never been a consensus on this and a huge amount of lolitas don't condone design replicas, so I don't know why she's acting like that.

Second, perpetuating the thought that "lolita is about expensive quality" for everyone. Lolita means different things to different people. For a lot of people, it's about art, creativity, and expression. Cheap stuff like Bodyline can be coorded well and still be valid lolita. I realize that Tyler is all about being a fullset APfag, but that doesn't mean the whole comm is about that.

I definitely lost some respect for her here... she's been in the comm for over a decade, she should know better about these things.

Yes because quality is essential and if you value cheapness aka “creativity” over quality then you’re an ita and the fact that you are pulling out AP sets as an example of what YOU THINK Tyler is trying to force upon the community...just puts you as the perma ita roleplayer you are.

Because the majority don't care. Replica tea parties are super popular. And don't reply to me angrily calling me a cheap ita. I personally include design replica as trashy, and wear brand shoes.
Including Bodyline as a lolita brand is the dumbest thing you could've written. Even japanese lolitas refer to it as a sex shop. Lolita is a fashion with rules and standards, just like all other hobbies. Your emotional problems and insecurities about being poor/cheap are irrelevant to the fashion

How do you gulls deal with giving sellers negative feedback on Lacemarket? A seller recently claimed she couldn’t lower shipping because she was charging me “flat rate” but I’m not an idiot, I know flat rate is less than she charged me. I get that she’s probably just trying to make up Paypal fees but it’s shitty, I would’ve been more understanding if she’d just been honest instead of lying about shipping cost which is easily disproved. Some of the people originally DIYing lolita items went on to found brands, genius.

I personally mix brand and handmade but even in handmade if your goal is to be cheap you'll probably look pretty ita. If anyone is too capitalist it's you for being so entitled to everything cheaply (including lolita) rather than saving up to get better things.

You don't have to spend an arm and a leg in this fashion or be rich to enjoy it, but if you're obsessed with things being dirt cheap go buy fast fashion and support sweatshop labor and design theft?

Even I'm a poorfag and I get so sick of other poor people treating this fashion like they're entitled to not only wear it but to be praised and asslicked for no other reason than existing because they are self important.

I live in the other end of the country from this person and even without the flat rate box, it would be roughly 10-14 dollars to ship a blouse. I knew this person was going to try and turn it. People (especially the anon I replied to) just seem to get so pissed that others pefer brand which is just usually good quality to their handmade stuff that is admittedly focused on being "cheaper" by some and it gets annoying hearing people called brandwhores for not liking their low quality handmade stuff. Handmade can look good (ex: everyone seems to love onlyfrillsandhorses on ig as a great handmade oldschooler who is starting her own brand). The anon whining about ruining lolita with capitalism is really misguided if they think that saying lolita is ideally somewhat about good quality makes anyone a brandwhore.

Also I wear oldschool so I don't really get an opportunity to buy firsthand, and only buy secondhand or make my normie clothes as well as lolita, so I don't directly contribute to whatever brands are doing as far as labor and production but I get your point that brands may be using unethical labor too.

VW wanted to create a shoe that literally put 'women on a pedestal.'

Just received my first dress by MMM (a recent rerelease) and honestly I’ve never been so disappointed with lolita purchase. Don’t get me wrong, it’s fine but it is actually... nothing extraordinary quality-wise? The print is stiff and bleak, the lace design looks like any other you can find in a regular shop, the construction is simple.

Maybe my expectations were too high since Mana’s brand always looked special in my eyes and the prices are on the higher end. But honestly with AP, Baby and AATP I had an amazing impression holding the dresses with all the tiny details in my hands irl and feeling that brand magic while this one made me suspicious whether I got scammed with a replica (when I was not). Maybe it better belongs to the feels thread but I felt the need to write about it somewhere.

imo where they really shine are their older solids and screenprints like Gothic Arch. The construction, weight, and attention to detail is absolutely phenomenal, and their beauty is in their simplicity. This may sound weird but I just love the character and elegance of their old designs so much.

Human faces make weird shadows when the lighting isn't right, that's why some daylight or bathroom selfies (diffuse light) look better than those taken indoors (overhead lights, usually cold temp too)

... So I'll come out of the woodwork to defend this chick. I recently actually BOUGHT one of her handmade pieces, an OP, and not only is it well-constructed (it's better than most taobao) it's a really good-quality cotton fabric (again, better than most taobao and, at the moment, AP) much like something Metamorphose would do. The stitches are all even, the thread is strong, and the lace is also very high quality (evenly sewn onto the hem of the dress, no catches, and cute bunnies design). There are no out-of-place seams. The ribbon sewen into the lace is straight, flat. The dress fabric doesn't even wrinkle. And, bonus, the whole dress is lined. She sewed a petticoat into it. The whole thing reminds me of my older Meta pieces, and I'm being honest here. Call me a whiteknight, ok, but I don't even know her (she lives in the UK, I live in the US). I liked the dress, it went with my older Meta apron, and it's worth the money I paid for it. I will continue to buy from onlyfrillsandhorses and I think if you do too you won't be disappointed. And even if you are, she sounds like a sane adult who would work through any problems like a professional CSR.

Could be an interesting thread to do a coord challenge with unique brand items (sticking to brand as I really don't want someone sticking somePayless shoe in there saying "COORD THIS").

Off the top of my head I think the bag could work with anything that seems retro and breakfast-ish, so all the diner waitress dresses they've been releasing lately come to mind, as well as maybe French Cafe print. There's probably some way to make it work with sweet lolita apron coords as well.

This look so bad, I hope you paid 5$ for it. Honestly it looks like you could have gotten it from ebay or milanoo, and for your idea of covering it all up with an apron, you actually would have been better off buying a cheap ita dress someone cringe bought than to make this girl think she can have a brand.

The biggest issue is the bodice is sloppy. Adding pockets and choosing nice lace wont change the fact that she didnt figure out how to make a bodice. All she did is just use a ton of fabric and put in shirring because she thought that is how a bodice is, there is no pattern and so there is no structure to the dress. If you look at any full shirred dresses, old school and modern, the bodice unstretched is not just a sack, it still have a defined shape to it because it was patterned to be so. Sometimes all you really want is a boring normie dress but done well and done nicely.

If I bought this off a normie brand the skirt wouldn't fit a petticoat, the lace would be cheap and meh, the buttons would be random normal ones and I'm pretty sure they don't really care to add half as many detailing or ruffle the lace on the hem of the dress. The details, man. The small tiny details that normies don't care about are what makes my heart sing, I wouldn't even glance at this from a normie brand because I can guarantee you it wouldn't have enough lace or cuteness in it.
