My main issue seems to be building my Instagram (toptyr_cosplay) although I have slow on updates as of yet and know I need content worth following I've done regular updates without much results, this year has been really rough so my cosplay plans went on the back burner so how I ensure 2020 sees a good community build? Not really active on Twitter

I'd say you should try to focus on improving both the quality of your costumes and of your photos. On the costume front, invest in better quality wigs and take good care of them, the shine looks cheap and they seem pretty messy. You should also try to iron or steam costumes both as you're making them and before wearing them. And I notice a lack of hems in places, that's something you should take care of. As for photo quality, avoid overly filtered phone pics. I know not everyone can afford a good camera, but there are many photographers at cons who will take good pictures for free, reach out to such people before the con and plan a shoot! Some of my favorite pictures of myself were taken for free by photographers. Barring that, taking pictures in natural light always looks better than artificial light unless you have a studio set-up. If you ask a friend to take a picture of you, try to have them get on one knee and take the picture from your chest level rather than head level, the perspective will be more flattering. And if you take a mirror selfie, for the love of god, clean your mirror.

Would any cosplayers be interested in joining a Instagram group chat where we all comment on each other's posts to help with reach/engagement?

What do you anons think about Instagram's decision to hide how many likes people get on their posts? Personally I'm fine with it because I mostly use insta to connect with other people, but I've heard the argument that it makes it hard for companies to determine which influencers are legit and which ones aren't.

Here’s what you need to do if you want to have an account that’s more “branded”
>Take photos in good lighting. Get a ring light or soft boxes to help you. You can get a small ring light for $30-40 on Amazon.
> Have a consistent editing style. A lot of your photos have different filters. Find a filter or editing style you like and stick to that one.
>put nonlolita content in your stories and have a “real life” highlight on your page or start a separate account for your irl stuff. This will help keep your feed consistently lolita but will still allow you to share your personal posts.

Why caring about clothes when you didn't do it about yourself?

My Instagram is getting s little bit bigger, and all of the numbers and analytics and stuff are starting to seem more relevant. I’m not really sure how to interpret a lot of the numbers I’m seeing like “reach” “impressions” etc.

Which numbers are most important? Assuming I have good, consistent content, what should I focus on to grow my account? Timing? Hashtags?

I’d like to expand into a YouTube blog at some point so I’m wondering how to grow my audience. Any tips or resources would be greatly appreciated.

Just a question I've been ruminating over. I've been noticing more and more of my friends and comm members trying to become efamous (while simultaneously acting like they don't care about efame), and while I don't judge them - people want different things etc - I'm wondering why they want efame. I suppose it's different for someone who went into lolita with the idea to become efamous, but when this is your hobby and you're looking to get attention by attracting a specific audience, doing specific looks etc, it seems futile to me. Not to mention the best perk you'll get is a free devilinspired dress, if you're lucky. Which you probably wouldn't be buying if it was your own money.

I'm really not trying to judge, just trying to understand - gulls that want lolita/jfash efame, why? What's in it for you? Please be honest, since we're all Anon here.

I'm guessing it's the validation of being recognized for something you love to do.
If a hobby makes you happy, just think of the echo chamber of happiness you can get if people cheer you on specifically as you partake in that hobby. I can imagine that it helps build confidence, too.
Since "world famous Lolita celebrities" aren't exactly a thing, and it's not something you can get rich off (in fact, if you're not ita, you are typically spending far more money to partake in this hobby than you could earn back from it), that's the best explanation I can come up with.

Just curious because I'm a seagull but mainly follow figure collectors and post photos of my figures as it's a hobby I'm very passionate about.
I am a lolita and cosplayer as well but tend to be too self conscious to post selfies in J-fashion or cosplay often.

Just a random question, not really sure where else to ask it. I'm a cosplayer, and back in the summer I did a shoot with a photog who offered me one on the spot. I had to miss the shoot I actually booked earlier so I was really grateful, and he said he'd edit them and get them back to me asap. I haven't worn the costume again, so all the pics that I got of it were by this one guy who did it for free. It's been over 6 months, is it rude/entitled to message and ask if I'll be getting the pics?

Unfortunately for you, it's going to stay tacky. This happens with 2 part when it's not mixed properly and with UV when it's older and the polymizer weakens. Some sites and tutorials (incorrectly) claim that resins have an inhibition layer much like nail gel, causing newbies to think you can just wipe of the tacky layer with alcohol and it's fixed. I noticed on some of her works that the surface looks a bit cloudy and not glossy at all, which is a product of that.

I'm usually pretty good about checking for sticky resin but a lot of my stock for that event 6 month ago suffered from a layer of weird sealant on the back of a lot of pieces not exactly hardening. Like, I put it on as a safeguard against rough bits catching on or paint transferring onto dresses, (and it succeeds at its intended purpose!) but when the sealant touches other instances of the sealant they tend to stick together. Not sure why that happened but it should otherwise be fine. You can probably just remove that layer of it's troublesome. Unless the piece was sticky on the front, then it might be what >>10316253 is saying. Let me know what piece it was though, and if you'd like a replacement.

Most lolitas just go for something generically kawaii-sounding like candydolly, ribbonprincess, etc. Actual cosplayers usually use their name in some form like johnsmithcosplay or john_smith. Just use the hashtags anon. Spamming hashtags is the easiest way to boost engagement and gain followers in my experience. I used to do the ~curated hashtags~ shit and I'd have just average engagement (10-15%), but since I started spamming tags, my engagement has gone up drastically (70-80%).
