I cosplay the joker regularly and always ALWAYS airbrush and seal that shit. I use armsocks or tights if I do like the vacation joker but if my arms and hands are showing, airbrush it. Water based paints are liable to sweat off or run if it rains, and cream/grease paint get literally everywhere and both are hard to get solid.

Tetanus shots I've heard are very painful and usually not neccesary until AFTER you step on something rusty unless you're in certain circumstances. Unless you're going to Roppingi on a Saturday night, you would be fine to walk around most of Tokyo barefoot. You'll probably be stopped by police asking if you're okay and where your fucking shoes are, fucking gaijin. But Japanese streets are free from debris and needles.

Going barefoot to a con is entirely dependent on you. As long as they don’t have a rule against it, it will be fine. However, there are quite a few things about going barefoot that most people overlook. If you’re the kind of person who regularly walks around barefoot, then you won’t have any issues, but if you wear shoes all the time, then there a lot of things that you need to take into account.

First of all is just how comfortable you are going barefoot. If you have very sensitive feet, then you will want to practice walking barefoot just so you get used to it. You may experience muscle soreness after a while, chapped skin, or you will just get fatigued from it.

If you have worn shoes all your life, then there are habits to how you walk that don’t translate well to walking barefoot. You can tell if someone doesn’t walk around barefoot regularly by how awkwardly they walk. Walking in shoes, we tend to get lazy and walk heel first. When walking barefoot, you need to walk on the balls of your feet instead, almost in a tip-toe walk. This is a more natural style of walking when not wearing padding under your feet, and will feel more comfortable. You will also want to lift your feet off the ground higher than you regularly would in shoes. It’s easy to accidentally brush your feet along the ground when walking which may lead to cuts or scratches if there’s something on the ground. Also pay attention to where your walking more closely so you don’t step on anything or stub your toe. Make sure that when you set your foot down, you’re setting it straight down to prevent scratching yourself. You can tell when someone isn’t used to being barefoot when you see them walk with a heel strike and they kind of stumble around and have an uneven gait for the above reasons so make sure to practice.

Try going to a park, or a track, and walk/jog around on the grass to get a sense for how it feels and how your legs/feet move when barefoot. Then move onto different surfaces depending on what’s available to you (sand, soft/hard packed dirt, asphalt, etc) and practice walking with a forefoot strike and get comfortable with it. Of course wash your feet when you’re don’t, but also, pay attention to your body the next day as you may be using muscles that you haven’t used as much previously. You may have sore calves and arches, small scratches on your feet that you didn’t notice previously or slight bruising. Adjust your style of walking and practice until you can do it comfortably without too much soreness.

Finally, make sure to just take care of your feet in general. If you have feet in good condition, then people don’t really think about them, but if they’re nasty, then it’s like a big ugly mole on your face – it’s the only thing people will see when they look at you and they will be disgusted. Trim your nails, or get a pedicure. Use a pumice stone to remove any rough spots/dead skin on your feet. Put lotion on regularly to make sure that they are properly moisturized. The day of, make sure to keep them dry as moisture will attract dirt and debris. Bring along a cloth and some baby wipes so you can clean and dry them regularly. Finally if you still aren’t sure, bring a pair of slippers that you can wear if it becomes too much for you at any point.
