Stupid question threads should be renamed "spoonfeed me things I can easily google but I won't" because holy shit

https://lmgtfy.com/?q=how+to+buy+lolita+from+japanese+auction+sites

there is SO much info online about this, if you can't be bothered to do a simple search, some research on SS reviews, or even check the cgl archive of the many "what's the best SS/which one do you use" threads that appear every once in a while (if your excuse is "b-but I want personal opinions anon"), you don't deserve those dresses.

stupid question,
I checked the general, and google and youtube.
But i wanted to know about cgl's con carry guide,
I'm not talking about stuff you put in hotel.
I mean stuff you carry with you.

How many bags do you use, what size bags?
How many electronics, what types?
How much different hygiene, first aid, and related stuff?
How many snacks?
How do you deal with con security checking your stuff?
Do i need to worry about having spray mace for protection?
Or any spray like deodorant spray that might be flammable?
Or small travel size LIQUID like mouth wash?

What other stuff?

Do you really wanna know? Does it really matter? Ok here I go you stupid derrailing piece of shit. My gf is mentally 100% a child, but technically an adult. By litle. I'm into these kind of panties, mostly because that's what "good girls" wear, and that means girls that aren't fully initiated into sexuality, and that's what I consumed as cumdumpsters for the best years in 4chins. They also used a hairbrush instead of a dildo because they didn't have a dildo, since you wanna know. Allegedly they were 18+, but in reality, who fucking knows. Make a throwaway facebook account. I would imagine your local comm probably has a fb group so join that. Once you've attended meets, made some friends there etc. you can probably ditch using the account if it makes you uncomfortable. Both comms I've been in events are all organised through fb so you'd have a hard time bypassing that completely if you don't have friends that can keep you in the loop.

Thanks for the advice!
I know my local com has a Facebook page, one of my friends is part of it, though she never really uses it (honestly I can't blame her).
However I'm not sure how well a throwaway would work as it is a closed group and friend mentioned that they screen applicants (asking q's about the fashion, nothing too difficult) and only really accept established accounts (understandably).
But yeah, I could try and see if they'll accept the throwaway?

I usually carry a backpack, and I am a cosplayer.

I keep a little daiso clear zipper pouch in my bag with whatever makeup I need to touch up for my cosplays.
A phone charger or two (because my friend and I share a bag). My camera if it will fit the current bag, but it has its own and usually goes in that if I'm out taking photos (It's a DSLR).
Usually some kind of snack bar for if we're stuck in a line, but I have also packed a full on bento or two for both of us if it's a con known to have bad food options. Don't even get me started on sneaking contraband food into cons that don't allow it.
If food is not allowed, I carry an item that has deceptive space inside (a plushie, a bag with a hidden compartment), whatever I can shove food into, I take into account FAR before we leave the house, and incorporate it into what I'm wearing/carrying for the day. I've hidden food in merchandise boxes before, too (like a figurine). No one checks.
No one is going to assault you. In 20 years of congoing, I have never had this happen. Ever.
If you're talking about taking those kinds of containers with you to travel, cons don't care, and airports each have their own guides. I've straight up carried a can of hairspray around the con in my bag for wig emergencies.

Also carry:
A pencil case full of feminine products if needed.
My phone case is my wallet.
I have a small pouch I put artist's business cards in in case I can't afford the merchandise and so I won't lose it/it disappears forever in my bag.
Safety pins, bobby pins.

If possible, hit your local thrift stores anon. I dress in a really similar simple, modest kind of vintage inspired style outside of lolita too and most of my wardrobe is thrifted.
there was lots of victorian and 40's inspiration in designs from the 70's and 80's, especially look for brands like Gunne Sax and Laura Ashley. A lot of their stuff is horrifying lacemonster barf florals, but the cut of their designs are beautiful, they use high quality natural fabrics like cotton and wool, and there are lots of solids out there too. I've got some really cute plain pieces and some with lovely tiny battenburg lace trims.

Other than those brands, just look for simple blouses in vintage cuts and below the knee skirts/dresses, especially pleated ones, and make sure you read the tags to check for real cotton, silk, and wool. Polyester really kills the look and its uncomfortable imo. Simple real leather shoes and a matching belt will go well with everything too. It's also very easy to dye natural fabrics if you find something nice in a color you don't like.

Most groups are pretty understanding if you explain that you had to make a new account for [reason] (work-related reasons are usually understandable). You can offer to link them to your other non-FB SN, or they might ask for a photo of yourself as proof you're not a creeper, or you might mention your friend's name as your referral (ask permission from your friend before you namedrop her though).

I'd keep the FB account rather than throw it away, though. Some groups are locked so you'd need to be signed in to view events, and girls tend to tag each other on FB, so that's a nice way to get meetup photos. There's probably a way to configure FB so it only sends you email when something in the group pops up (if you don't check the email settings usually it's set to just email you dumb shit trying to get you to sign in all the time).

Cut out fried food, try to get your protein steamed or grilled. Try to never have a super empty stomach and eat smaller main meals with small (healthy) snacks in between. Look up exercise routines specifically targeting the parts of the body you want to lose fat from - stuff like general cardio doesn't help in my experience.
Ganbatte anon!

>> No.10267434

>>10267419
General cardio actually does burn calories and can make a difference if you do enough. Caloric deficits are most important usually. Counting calories is the easiest way. You can literally eat a diet of pure ice cream, never exercise, and lose weight if you reduce your calorie intake enough. (Source: when working in Japan I didn't have a gym available but lost weight when eating rice bowls and ice cream daily; it's all about portion control).

The point on lots of small meals can help some people but it is actually good for your metabolism/weight loss to not necessarily fast but allow yourself to actually feel hungry before eating meals and have meals at specific routine times if possible. Waiting until you are truly hungry to eat allows certain chemicals or processes to start building up in your body that prepare for digestion/burn calories from stored fat, etc.

Toning can help a skinny fat person look slimmer or better figure wise but you can't really target fat in specific areas, only tone or build muscle and even that can be complicated and limited.

An easy way to cheat on wanting to feel full but keeping calories restricted is just eating filling low calorie items like raw celery, carrots, apples, and other fruits and veggies as snacks. "Cut out junk food" suggestions don't work if the person already eats junk food. Really it's "cut out some calories"

Lonelita here! After mulling it over I think I'm less open to the idea of a throwaway for personal and professional reasons (the data mining doesn't exactly fill me with confidence either desu), but thank you for the well thought out advice. I'll definitely keep it in mind in case I ever decide to make a throwaway in the future.

Spoke to friend again the other day. There's a meet up coming up soon and she offered to ask the group about it for me (and my other lonelita friend), even though she would not be able to attend herself. I wouldn't go to any meetup without her there and without having the group know about attendance (I'm a little shy and don't want to be even more impolite, especially if I'm not part of the com). I don't really want to offend anyone by just 'rocking up' with friend.

Friend sent me a screenshot of the response she got, one member seems to be okay with me tagging along but another would like me to join the community first which is understandable. I don't know which one the mod is, judging by the response I'm guessing the second one?

How much of a social sin do you think it would be if I did go along with friend to a casual meet up sometime in the future?

The original is by Rosa Bianca, an indie lolita brand. It's not an exclusive print though, the fabric is available as quilting fabric (I think the print was designed by Harajuku Dolls, iirc). It's really old, like from 6? years ago? So it's really hard to find as it's an indie brand and sold out long ago. If someone else can remember what year it came out you might be able to dig through Rosa Bianca's old jugem.jp to find the announcement of the original release.

The reason the replica is still around is because it's apparently really bad -- it's a fabric that you can easily buy from fabric stores, but the replicamakers for some reason opted to go ahead and replicate the fabric cheaper, but printed the border print too high for some reason, plus some anons say it's also shiny and the contrast apparently got fucked up along the way.

They are all in Japanese as far as I'm aware but they offer patterns for lolita items and accessories and some even have pattern designs shared from bigger brands I think? They aren't really pattern drafting books but Japanese pattern books are cool in that they require a lot of pattern drafting elements and technique to get the pattern properly traced from the book.

Guessing the lozenges are gross too? I've only tried the gum and agree it's disgusting. You gotta replace the habit and find other ways of doing what it does for you, there's kinda 2 parts to it - the actual act (nicotine hit/having something to do with mouth and hands) and what you use it for (creating space for a break, de-stressing etc). Stupid as it sounds sticker and reward charts for yourself using the money you save not buying ciggies - or a jar in which you put the cost of each day's ones in and then treat yourself for a certain amount of time not smoking. Also, if you haven't quit before don't be scared if you feel shit and cough awful shit out of your lungs for a few weeks - it's often tar and crap that's built up trying to get out (but obvs see your doctor if it doesn't settle down or you get fevers and stuff). Seconding Aldrich, I'm doing a fashion degree and they are what we use to make basic blocks. Once you have blocks in your size you can make pretty much anything. Also like anon says, you will realise how painfully easy most lolita patterns are. OnS are very very beginner level, I used to collect them before I started my degree but now I never even bother with them aside from inspiration because I don't really like the way the patterns are fitted, many of them look super boxy or just off.

Going off of that though, if you want to make lolita clothes that look more interesting and unique you can't go wrong with learning some fabric manipulations, things like tucks, shirring, smocking etc. are what makes a lot of basic lolita pieces look complex. In a lot of cases you can just do them onto plain fabric and then just cut your pattern over the top, rather than adding allowances into your patterns so it's super simple. The art of manipulating fabric is a good book but you can also probably just find things on youtube.

Use a deodorant under your arms or a prescription strength antiperspirant, as it's the reaction between sweat + active antiperspirant that causes yellow underarm stains, more than sweat alone. So either use inactive deodorant, or eliminate the sweat entirely.
Wear a light layer underneath your blouse like a cami or thin nude t-shirt (t-shirt has the benefit of also protecting your blouse from whatever underarm product you use). Make sure it's a breathable material like cotton or linen. Likewise, underwear with lots of coverage under bloomers, or skip the bloomers entirely if it's a really hot day.
Dunno if there's a good way to protect your socks.

Axes Femme. Should also warn you it's a potential ita-magnet -- their stuff is cheap and sometimes it shows on the quality of the lace, plus with girly normie brand there's no such thing as consistent colour. But then again AP swings wildly with its lavender, and if you keep an eye on the quality it's not worse than anywhere else anyway.

Honestly depends on where you are and what you wear. A metropolitan city will be more open than a conservative backwater town (and some cities people will ignore you the weirder you dress, rather than bother with you at all). Beauty standards are surprisingly universal, if you look like a sane person who takes care of themselves, have a neat appearance, most people react positively and assume you have a reason to be dressed up. Generally if you don't look like a "living doll" delusional basement dweller people are usually positive.

Warm climate: if it's the humidity, parasols do shit against that. I'd suggest going with natural fibres, eg summer cutsews and cotton underthings (winter cutsews tend to actually be heavier fabric). Maybe a skirt rather than a jsk, be wary of fully-lined OPs as the polyester lining won't breathe well despite the dress being cotton.

And of course, just avoiding the sun as much as possible, plan to wear lolita when you're going to spend a lot of time indoors with fans/air conditioning, avoid it if you know you're definitely going to be somewhere hot and uncomfortable.

Depends on your body shape/size, and also a little bit on the dress itself. For every promo pic where it works out, there's probably a girl posted in the ita thread where it doesn't work out.

If you're short and flat-ish, it'll usually work out fine. If you're tall, curvy and big, it'll generally go badly -- tying shortens the skirt as it needs to come in at the waist now, while curvy or big means there's usually a fabric balloon happening up top that's gonna result in a "snowman" kind of silhoutte.

Goes double if the dress is an OP with a rectangle skirt rather than flared (generally border prints are rectangle skirts), as there will be more fabric up top, and if the fabric is stiffer than soft polyester it'll generally do the balloon thing quite readily.

If you hit a combo on some of these, eg- short but curvy, or rectangle print but polyester, then it's usually something you need to experiment with to find out if it works.

And puffed sleeves.

When brand was harder to get your hands on there was some effort to "lolify" things like cardigans and t-shirts by sewing lace and ribbons and shortening them. The one biggest trip up to lolifying a t-shirt into a cutsew is the sleeves, no matter what kawaii thing you attached to it if the t-shirt sleeves looked like t-shirt sleeves it was somehow always a dead giveaway that this item was originally a t-shirt.

-Resale value

-Prints often are better designed (idk about AP these days though, that Halloween release was rough)
-Often actually much cheaper and arrives sooner if you order from within your country
-Bodyline stuff is always out of stock (though they are trying to fix that soon)
-Can actually be cheaper much of the time, some older brand dresses with easily removable or fixable stains and damage sell for under $90USD on LM often (I saw a cute BABY dress that didn't sell for 5 months because of the damage and eventually had the price reduced to like $60)
-Not contributing to fast fashion and waste

the list goes on anon, secondhand brand or new indie stuff like Lady Sloth is often more well liked by the community at large than most taobao for a variety of reasons.

People who are into lolita fashion often handle their purchase habits differently within the fashion. Less like a fast fashion and more like a collection.

If we are strictly speaking of advantages, then it's mostly the garnment and production quality. On average chinese brands are cutting costs where they feel it's legitimate in order to keep their prices low, which is why they fall behind traditional japanese brands. In the end you get what you pay for.

That aside there are also other things that make secondhand a viable or even better option than buying from taobao or bodyline. See >>10270528. Japanese brands are overall better liked than most Taobao labels or Bodyline for various reasons. The designs, the materials, the quality, the rich history and influence they had on the fashion, resale value, better collectable due to said market value/designs/rarity, the prestige,....

To be fair people who prefer taobao over japanese brands or think bodyline serve their need just as well exist too. I guess it really comes down on the individual and the circles you are in, but on average japanese brands are still seen as top-tier for said reasons and more.

A lot of nuance here though.

- Older, unpopular, average burando regularly runs around $100~$200
- If it's even older and even less popular, it'll dip below $100, even undamaged (but worn) pieces.
- If it's damaged it'll also be cheap (depending on the damage. The more unwearable the cheaper, people do buy them for crafting or modding their own dresses but nobody's going to pay a hundred bucks for some small square of fabric)
- If it's a newer item, or NWT (new with tag) then it'll be more expensive, sometimes almost at retail price.
- If it's a popular item that many girls want, there will be some richer girls willing to pay more money to own it, even secondhand, so the secondhand price of a very popular dress can be higher than its original retail price (of course, this changes according to the market, if girls no longer find the dress exciting then nobody is willing to pay that much for it and the price drops)

Taobao:
- firsthand taobao is frequently around $80 per dress, but this is your average cheap taobao
- The fancier taobao dress with more add-ons (note that it isn't always higher quality) is frequently higher than $80
- Unlike burando, the resale value of taobao is spotty at best -- if you luck out there is maybe one or two girls looking for the dress and willing to pay you money. Everything else you might as well throw in the donation bin when you're done. That's because taobao has a reputation where a lot of the dresses are easily damaged, so buying secondhand is highly risky, even if the dress is only 1-2 years old.

You can find good condition or new dresses or sets for the same a or under retail (which is like $250 or less for a lot of sets); that's a lot for a kid or a poor person with no ability to save but it's not at the level you need a sugar daddy or rich family to afford lol.

Teenage lolitas probably have extra spending money and a part time job cause they aren't paying rent yet; depending on the wage where they live you could easily make enough to buy a dress and accessories every month even at non discounted prices and then resell ones you don't like to pay for new ones. Most people with big wardrobes build it over time or people are just good at coording in unique ways and make it seem like they own more than they do by making the outfit look distinctly different each time.

You guys must be children or ridiculously poor (and have bigger things to worry about than Japanese burando) if you think buying secondhand lolita is really that expensive when done carefully and properly.

I think it's rare for someone to order exclusively from brand websites and never buy secondhand. With exceptions, Lolitas usually take care of their clothing, and most brand is durable and high quality, so secondhand dresses often don't look any worse than mint after steaming or ironing wrinkles out.

Personally, I work full time doing database work (nothing too fancy or well paid), but I'll be going to part time soon and my husband and I will be splitting our money 50/50. I have more money working full time, but the tradeoff isn't worth it (two-income trap and all that... Plus the apartment is a damn mess all the time.) Regardless, it's all about budgeting, much more than salary. You have to look at exactly what you spend and what comes in, and allocate the latter. I generally go with the 30/70 rule -- save about a third of what you make and spend the rest on bills and rent; what's left over is discretionary.

Someone who makes 10k more than me but eats out at restaurants all the time will have less to spend than if they buy cheap produce and cook their own food. Etc.

The "actually rich ones" don't bother getting into lolita -- even a $300 dress, it's not really impressive. They go straight for the 5-digit designer handbags. If I ever got a sugar daddy you can bet I'm not wasting his money on lolita dresses whose value plummets as soon as lolitas forget it exists, I'd ask for a Birkin as a gift rather than AP.

Girls in lolita are generally middle to upper-middle class. A lot work, though I don't have a census to tell you how many prioritise career.

With the secondhand market, the entry level is actually very low. Most of the buying problems I see are with girls who decided to get into lolita yesterday and want a full wardrobe today, too impatient and unwilling to put in effort to budget properly and find out where to buy cheap but quality dresses. I don't know if they ever realise that those girls with huge wardrobes usually collect the dresses one by one over a handful of years.

You’re going to be too big, sorry. Even “plus size” from taobao is for chubby Asian girls (short and still not actually very big compared to a European body) Try We Love Color to teja jamilla on Etsy

There was definitely a rich lolita who was here for a while. And let's not get started on the Chinese nouveau riche.

Other than investing enough money into funds and property to ensure that they have income without having to work, rich people probably just buy shit they like just like the rest of us.

I don’t know a single lolita who gets their stuff bought for them. Most are independent working women in the professional sector and can afford to buy clothes. I’m an engineer. A $300 dress isn’t really that big of a deal, especially since once you get past the startup costs, a lot of lolita’s wardrobes are self/funded or self-offset. That is to say I spent a lot at first but after a couple years I’m to the point where generally I sell stuff and use that money plus maybe an extra $50 to buy a new (to me) dress. Almost every other girl in my comm is the same.

There's always an outlier.

For the chinese market, we don't have the numbers so I'd rather not blindly speculate.

I'm just saying actually rich people are just still people and not robots trying to outdo each other. They're bound to have different tastes and not all of them are interested in stupid flexes. You're also the one making broad generalizations about rich people, so ok.

I've got a decently thin upper body but am very much pear-shaped, my measurements in cm are 81/72/101. I'd like to try dressing in a more feminine, mature style and I love looking at clothes from Axis Femmes, but a lot of their pants are cut in this straight, wide cut that I've never worn before. Would this cut of pants just make me look fat?

>> No.10272548

>>10272525
as a fellow pear: generally these types of pants will end up tight around your thighs to the point where it no longer has the same draping look as the pic, but people can still tell that’s what the intended effect was. you’re better off with skirts or other cuts where your hip/thigh measurement won’t be a detriment to the shape.

So the inner brim of a beret is meant to be folded in and not showing to avoid looking like a chef's hat, right? Then why do berets like pic related have decorated brims? Am I missing something? Is it meant to be worn like this?

You can not make much money and still afford newish dresses regularly, especially since a lot of men don't spend much on themselves or shop as much as women do a lot of the time.

Where can I find corsets that go with lolita and shinori? I know Enchantilly and Abilletage make some, but they don't seem actually boned, and more like a fashion accessory?

Look for corsets of the "waspie" cut. Timelesstrends has some as far as I know, and if you DIY and sew some lace onto it it can be a really nice piece.

Basically I'm doing a low effort shite meme cosplay of toga from my hero academia
I ordered some beer koozies to use as these shoulder things because I plan on putting monster cans in them instead actually having the needle canister things.
What I want to know is how I should stick the koozies together and have them be upright while supporting the weight of cans inside (most likely empty but if full even better), and then be able to mount them on my shoulder

Is it bad when you see someone looking for a DD you are about to sell, that you prefer to list it as an auction instead of selling it directly to them? Or should they have dibs? It might be someone else's DD too?
