Guess I'll start. Is there any real difference between the pink insulation foam and the blue insulation foam? I see people using the blue stuff a lot more but I have a bunch of the pink stuff lying around from a home project and I'd like to put it to use if I can

I'm a male deku. I want to have makeup like this. I think I just need foundation plus the dots. I don't care about the eye makeup. I just want the overall face stuff. What do I need? What makeup tools are used and what does those dots?

I would recommend lining your eyes a little with at least some brown eye shadow or something. Just take a little bit of a drug store brown eye shadow and work it into the lash line. If it looks too harsh you can blend it a little with an eyeshadow brush. It will look a lot better in photos and be more forgiving than a black eyeliner if you are unsure of your technique. I do this on my BF for his cosplay and it looks less like a young boy got into his mom's makeup if you know what I mean.

Hi help thread, I need some help with a 3D printed order I received. The following was sent and on the surface level, it looks good. However, ounce I looked closer I found some issues.

You need to fill the holes, there's a bunch of options like bondo, wood filler, epoxy resin, etc. Then sand the filler smooth. Before painting I recommend priming, I use an automotive spray primer from Motip but look at what is available where you live. I do a few coats, then sand the primer smooth again, and then paint. There's a ton of different paints, I also use Motip wheelspray for metallics, then Motip clear coat, just because that way I know they'll work fine together and the clear coat won't ruin the paint like it would certain metallic paints I've used in the past.

Amazon and Aliexpress both have thousands of sellers with different levels of quality, I've gotten a few nice wigs from Ali that are on par with Arda though they're not as dense, Arda's are really thick. The main issue for me is size, I have a rather large head so I know Arda will fit but with other sellers it can be a gamble. Anogol on Aliexpress has some quite nice lace fronts for like a third of the price tag for a similar style Arda. The other big plus with Arda is the color ring, you can get exactly the color you see on the ring, with other sellers there's the risk of the photo not reflecting quite the right color, so if you need a very specific shade it's the safer option. You can weigh the pros and cons depending on your needs.

Felt won't give you the same fabric effect and will make you overheat really badly. I'd say go with burlap (like so: https://www.joann.com/burlap-fabric/prd23682.html)) and dye darker if need be. Kinpatsu Cosplay has this excellent pattern that would be perfect for Gandalf's hat. It's in her store for $5 rn, but you could probably find a similar pattern or maybe something close from a Halloween store. In gneral, robes and cloaks are some of the easiest things to sew, but take a lot of fabric which can run the price high (especially at $3.99/yd). Either be ready to make some compromises, shop smart, or sacrifice some movie quality.

Does anyone know what it says on the red lantern on the side of his head? I found exact matches for the lanterns but they don't have any text on them, would it be too out of place to leave the text off them?

Yeah, that's why I'm confused. They're sewn on the inside of it, two straps that kinda make a circle. I tried them on putting them between the elastics, but it didn't change much. So I have no idea how to actually use them to keep the socks up.

What color are your natural brows? If they’re blonde-light brown, you just need brow filler. If they’re dark, use blonde brow gel since that’ll cover your eyebrow hairs as well as fill in your eyebrows. Sephora’s house brand has a good gel but you could also try Glossier and Colourpop.

Super easy, I have hair past my waist and all I do is put it in a loose ponytail, wear a net cap with a couple pins to hold the opening in place, and squeeze it all into the wig. The hair in your picture is thicker than mine, but also a lot shorter, so it shouldn't take up that much more room.

I recommend using an Anastasia brow wiz in light brown (or maybe slightly darker if you have a tan or brown complexion). You gotta dot them on for a few minutes. Study photos of people with real freckles so that you know you're applying them more concentrated in areas where they'd appear naturally. Make sure your skin is nice n moisturized and try not to wear any more foundation than you absolutely need. Putting a little blush on first helps it look natural. You want to look like your skin is bare.

I'm trying to do a Tech Priest cosplay for Holomat this year. I'm invested in it so far for $15 with this harbor freight torch goggles and a halloween mask. I know I'll need to cut away the cheek bones, then maybe use Tamiya putty to fill in the holes, and I plan on covering the teeth with foam and hoses. Then I'm going to spray paint it matt black after a quick primer, cover up anything I can with foam panels, re-glue the veil back on it and wear it under the hood. It's not going to look great, but I think it'll be OK. Any suggestions?

Fashion some tubes by cutting out long rectangular pieces of thin EVA foam (1/8" and below) and stitching them into tubes with rubber cement.

To create the 90 degree bends; Go down to your local building supply store and pick up some 90 degree (120 degree if available as well) elbow pipes with the correct outer diameter. Fashion some "wings" out of said pipes, wrap it in tin foil+duct tape, and create a flat pattern based on the assembled pipes.

Adapt his technique to make your own flat pattern for the elbow pieces.
Heck, if you have the cash to blow: fashion the entire wing prototype out of pipes and elbow pipes and use above technique to create the entire flat pattern.

Note: Resist the urge to stuff the tubes with stuffing. They will end up heavy and won't stand up nicely on your back. An airtight seal alone should keep it's shape and keep them light. To maintain a firm shape: cut out some "corks" (stack up thicker EVA foam pieces) that match the inner diameter of the tubes and rubber cement them into place. This will seal in air and prevent them from collapsing if squeezed.

Once all assembled; use some water based silicone to fill in the seams and create a uniform look (technique is explained in the video I linked you to). Coat the whole thing in a basecoat of white Plastidip (I believe they have some green options, but use white if none of them are to your liking), then after a few coats of Plastidip, coat the whole thing with some neon green spray paint (I found that Mr. Hobby rattle cans work pretty well if you can get your hands on those. Also have a nice variety of colors).

You'll also want to fashion some elastic straps and attach them to the base of the wings so they firmly stay attached to you.

Hope this helps. I've made tube eva foam pieces before for a billy hatcher helmet a few years back so I know this technique will work.

You could try using clear pvc pipes, heating them, and then bending them into shape. That way you can also thread leds or el wire into them so that they glow. You can also color the pipes with translucent spray paint or by dyeing them with dyes for synthetic fabrics.

I can only speak for if you use pipes but you’d basically make a base that goes underneath your suit, attach pvc pipe end caps (pic related) to it, cut holes in the suit where the pipes will come out of, and attach the pipes to the end caps. Since this is bound to be heavy, you’ll want the base to have multiple straps (ex: backpack straps + an overbust strap + underbust strap) to prevent it from sliding down.

Lay your goggles down on a sheet of paper and trace their outline, cut that out from the paper, then lay your paper outline pattern over your mask and use that to get a better fit for where you gotta cut.
Unfortunately with what you're trying to do it's not ever gonna be a 100% perfect cut right off the bat. You'll have to fill in areas with epoxy or your putty stuff to get it truly perfect.
I wish I could tell you there was a simple fool-proof way to do it quickly and be done but anytime you smash two objects together like that it's gonna be sloppy at first before you clean it up.

I have a pair of Adidas superstars that I was thinking of using as a base for Maid Mew Ichigo's shoes. All of the shoe cover tutorials I've seen cover the shoe in fabric and sometimes foam for armor details. How should I approach these sneakers? I was thinking of maybe adding eyelets so that I can run the laces through, but what about the tongue of the shoe? And would covering it in stretchy fabric look strange over the textured shoe or would it be alright? I'm guessing I'll need to add a leather sole as well to add traction. Should I consider buying a cheap pair of black sneakers instead?

I think so, since niche fans genuinely light up when they see cosplay from an obscure series they like. If pic related is what you’re planning on though, I would try organizing a group cosplay. It’s a lot more recognizable. Sorry for the unclear pic, that's actually the bodice and neckline. The pleats are at the shoulders, which makes me nervous to undo them

I used brazing goggles (pic related) as a base for a pair of Ghostbusters ecto-goggles. I spray-painted them to be dark green (green, then Krylon clear-coat).
However, on the rubbery main body it's remained pretty tacky and has only become more sticky to the touch over time (not to the point where it's leaving residue), as well as visually looking off. Also, as someone who has made several large wire-based fairy wigs, you really don’t need that much support. What I do is just make two big wire “bends” in the middle (so the middle wire has a big upside down U shape). Cover it in a big felt pocket (for comfort and to keep the U width consistent) and whip stitch the wires inside like channels. Then, have a horizontal slit on the back of your cosplay the same size as your felt pocket. Wear an underbust corset under your cosplay (doesn’t have to be reducing, can even make a thick secure belt or something since these wings are light) and tuck the square into the top. Smaller wire wings are usually fine being secured with just the tightness of the cosplay or a bra strap.

You can interface the square out of something more stiff like buckram, but it probably won’t curve to your body as well. Let me know if you need a quick picture diagram for any of this.

It varies from manufacturer to manufacturer, most wigs are heat resistant nowadays though so the 120°C to 150°C range should be safe. You can get wigs resistant to that temperature for less than $15 so there's no point to non-heat resistant ones anymore.

The length is fine and my chest fills enough of the top so that I only want to take the sides in to fit my waist better, does anyone have any guides on how to do this? It's super easy, just put it on inside out, pin the sides symmetrically until it fits just right, take it off and sew along your pins. You may want to use safety pins so they don't fly out or stab you when you take off the dress.

I've looked around to see if anyone has suggested anything on forums in the past, but for some reason, the Nazi isn't a popular character to dress up as.

With his hairline, you'll need to buy a lacefront wig. Alternatively, you can cut and glue strands of hair to create a faux natural hairline, but know that it can make it more difficult to put on and can look obviously glued if you don't blend the hair well. The metal rod will be way too heavy and cardboard is a horrible choice of material. It's paper texture and lack of structure will make it a nightmare to pain or to hold up properly as you can see from your trial. Use a thin wooden dowel or pvc pipe for light, but effective strength. It'd honestly suggest to try out using scrap pieces of foam because its lightweight and can hold its own. With Halloween season right now, it should be easy enough to find a premade sword that you can just paint to look realistic - foam or plastic. Remember that certain paints will melt foam or plastic, so check the ingredients first and test it out on a spare piece.

You don't necessarily have to do an anime character just because it's an anime con, obviously some purists think otherwise, but they can go fuck themselves. You can do basically any nerd media character and people at the con will recognize it and appreciate it.
I also wouldn't recommend Goblin Slayer for your first cosplay, but if you wanted to do it sometime down the line, I'd highly encourage you to make it yourself over trying to buy something cheap. EVA foam is easy to work with and very affordable and there's lots of resources out there for it. You could definitely learn and I'm sure someone's got the templates/pepakura files for the helmet, which would be the hardest bit.

If you get that base, you’ll probably want to add a glued hairline so that it doesn’t meet awkwardly with your scalp. You can probably get color swatches from Epic Cosplay Wigs (it looks close to butterscotch blonde i think?) to see if you can get matching wefts to make the hairline. Arda’s colors are usually blended from several colors so they don’t match as well to generic cosplay wigs.

Even if you get the “pre-styled” one, you’ll still need to do the actual spiking and possibly trimming around the face area (companies usually leave stuff like bangs very long and also don’t do anything beyond heating the fibers)

Otherwise, Arda’s Suzi or Epic’s Hecate might be good lace front bases.

You could use heat transfer vinyl with a satin stitch border. It won't be easy to do the satin stitching with such extensive decor, but that's the closest you can get without outright embroidery

Hey guys, I'm new to making armor cosplay but I 100% want to do Líf from Fire Emblem Heroes. The biggest thing I'm having trouble figuring out is how tf to do the chest cavity skeleton thing. I originally thought it was impossible and I was just going to have it light up blue and call it a day but then I found that the cosplayer on the left had already done what I wanted pretty convincingly. They had posted the cosplay on Twitter and someone else had already asked them how they did it and the answer was basically "idk I just commissioned it lol."

Okay me again, I combed through the comments on the cosplayer's instagram and they say in one comment they commissioned it and another that they made it and it took six months. Then on another photo they just credit the costume to "professional cosplay commission services" so I just don't know what the fuck is going on. Anyway, the way I think it works is that they're just really fucking skinny so the armor was made to fit both their body in the back and a slightly squished plastic skeleton in the front, with layers of blue chiffon around it to create that steam-like effect. Sometimes it goes around his shoulders, but it can also be pushed back when he uses his bow or when he sits down. Its easy to cut but is dense so it holds whatever shape you need very easily. Then once you've cut your pieces get either blue nylon fabric (since I believe most kevlar armor has a nylon outer coating?) or if you can't get that I think you could get by with blue duct cloth and use either of those to cover your foam pieces. Most "black" anime and game characters have this sort of white hair. Does anyone have any advice for how I'd pull off Dedue's style? Trimming a wig this short would likely expose the base and unlike my Enrico Pucci, I can't get away with just using hair chalk.

Buy a chin to shoulder length wig and cut off to your desired length but make sure to save the cut off wefts in a neat fashion. Then apply glue in a line to the top (making sure to cover both sides) - doing this on a silicone mat or something that won't stick to the glue will make it easier. Let dry, peel, then glue or sew into the wig to make it fuller. Once its your desired length, it should be full enough to hide the tracks.

If you're going from dark to light, you're bleaching, not dyeing, which makes a massive difference. But as the other anon said, duck will have a water-resistant coating which will make bleaching it difficult. It will likely be easier to find another pair that's already the right color, or white if you really can't find off-white.

I'm making my first cosplay ever (pic related, it's going to be Raven) but I'm having some difficulty finding the right fabric. I know I want a 4 way stretch velvet because of the sheen and comfort that I like, but I can't seem to find the type I want. I have a dress that is stretch velvet and it is pretty thick and it doesn't seem to be lined. However, it seems everywhere I've gone only has something that's super thin, and I don't want it to be see through when it stretches.

Should I bite the bullet and line the thin velvet?
Does anyone know where I can get a thicker version?
Should I give up on the velvet and just use a knit? If so what kind of fabric would you recommend?

Any other tips or tricks would be helpful as well, I'm kind of just winging it at the moment.

Pretty much. I'd say first check out any reputable lens site and see what exact measurements they ask for then head to your local optometrist and ask for an eye exam. Let them know you'd like to buy some color contacts. Some optometrists sell them (although than can be expensive, I don't necessarily recommend getting them straight from there although take a look at the brands they offer. I have an extremely heavy mask that currently is being held on by a fairly thin velcro strap. It's heavy enough that it tries to tip back and is basically only held on by the strap levering it against my forehead, with a couple of inches between the bottom and my chin. Would it be possible to craft Lapis Lazuli's wings out of plexiglass? I read a tutorial that used PETG, but there's a seller in my area that's selling plexiglass at a discounted price. I really want to take advantage of the deal since PETG is close to $100 for the amount I would need. I understand that plexiglass is more flexible than PETG and will bend more as a result, but I don't want my wings to flail around with every movement I make. The thickness is 1/16".

Take darker brown paint, paint aaaall over it (or at least over everywhere that has 'wood grain'), and then wipe the paint off with a cloth while it's still wet. The paint will stay in the 'grain' and it'll look a lot more natural than trying to paint them in individually. Plus it's way easier. Just get cheap-ass brush-on acrylic paint, it'll do as well as anything.

I'd paint brown on the head too and not wipe it completely off, just like 90% of it. Leave it a little dirty.

That's a hard question because at that length most wigs would show track lines which would be super obviously a wig. Check out Arda's side shave wig and maybe you'll get an idea of how to do it on a full head. Flocking spray kind of makes sense though since you would theoretically need something to 1) adhere without noticeable attachment 2) stand up on it's own 3) have enough coverage to make it unnoticeable and realistic.

You can skip the worbla all together, it wasn't a mandatory part of that. You can still shape EVA foam. Just make sure to heat it up really well and use objects to mold on top of so that the lines and perforations come out really nicely.

You can also just use thick foam and take a rotary tool to it and carve in the detail you want. You'd want to practice a bit if you haven't used one before.

Theres a desert brown on Arda but I'm not sure if that will look right in person.

Imo I think the color Aria Blonde would look better. It has the brown and gray tones in it whereas Dessert Brown leans towards just straight darker brown. Dark Ash Blonde is another alternative. As for wigs, you could use, there doesn't appear to be much stock to choose from at the moment, but you could use Eowyn Classic. The ponytail looks pretty loose in the reference photo so hopefully you won't have any issue with wefts showing.

Dark ash blonde would be a little too light, and unfortunately it doesn't look like they have aria blonde in the right length.

It'll be a genderbent cosplay so I would need a shorter wig or otherwise I would need to cut a lot of the material off.

It could be a number of reasons. Your foundation or concealer might not match your skin, the formula might be more dewy than your skin needs (aka not right for your skin type), you may be applying way too much, or you might not be sealing it correctly. Why don't you walk us through your routine (including rough amounts of how much you put on) and maybe we can spot the mistake.

My searches have turned up empty. Upon further reflection, I think that Desert Brown wouldn't be a bad choice. Search "Arda Wigs [color]" and look through the cosplay photos for a better idea of what it would look on different skin tones and in different lighting. I think it would pass off just fine. The blending of the hair colors would probably make that blondeish-brownish-grayish color irl. And some other cosplayers for that character just went straight blonde, but still look recognizable so, go for it my dude. Aria Blonde is still my highest choice, but Arda's stock is dry as always.

But you're right that should work from looking at the photos. I liked the dark aria blonde on the site but that wig in person looks much much lighter.

Would it be possible to use the red maid dress pictured on the left to create the Maid Ichigo from TMM costume on the right? My plan is to use a matching fabric like: https://www.joann.com/symphony-broadcloth-solid-quilt-fabric/prd10006.html, to add the proper neckline, mandarin, and mandarin collar, then I would buy a white cotton fabric to sew on the white strip. The apron would be covering a majority of the awkward seam lines. If it works, it could save me a load of work in the process, but if the end result is going to look ugly, then it's not worth it. Should I sew my own from scratch or does this sound like a feasible plan?

First time dealing with EVA foam, and need help with some cutting it at an angle. I'm trying to cut the ends at a 45 degree angle so when I bring two peices together they come together evenly and make a 90 degree angle on the inside, basically making it a cube. My cutting is kinda choppy and rough though.
