I'm 24. I have wanted to get into lolita since I was 17. I almost bought my first coord when I was 18 but decided against it and now I have major regrets.

I really want to buy a one piece dress and maybe some socks/shoes... I have a specific one in mind that I've fallen in love with.

But I feel guilty about it, even though I have the money, because it would just hang in my closet for 99% of the time. I feel like I would not have anywhere to wear it? I live in the West and I'm 24 so I am afraid wearing it outside would make me look weird. There is only one convention near me, and I don't know if I'm keen on going and wearing Lolita, and I don't know how to join any comms and desu am scared to join comms because I have a crappy past.

Should I just give up on it and admire it from afar?

>> No.10035651

Wow, it's literally me
I was in exactly the same position as you just five months ago
One day I just said fuck it, you will never get any younger, do it now or you never will
And then I dropped $900 on a coordinate, re-joined the closest com, and won best dressed at the Halloween party
I've never been this happy before in my entire life
At the end of this life, the same worms will eat me, what I wore, bought, and loved will change nothing
This life is an incidental blip with no purpose or meaning but what you give it
Jump in, anon

You're 24, you should be able to
a) dress yourself the way you want
b) scroll through the fucking catalog and ask this question in an existing thread.

Also, pic related

It's clothes, dumbass. Not a costume. You just wear it. There is no 99% of the time unless you work and sleep all day and have no time to wear normal clothes and go out. Otherwise you just wear it like any other outfit, there is loud OTT and toned down also

>> No.10035666

just wear it when you have time off

when you say west like how west are you talking

bc if you're in like Idaho or Montana or some shit and want to wear 2012 AP sugar vomit sweet yeah it's gonna suck and you're gonna get weird looks and there's not much for comms in the way of moral support either

like if you wanna wear it just do it but you need to have the confidence otherwise you're 100% guaranteed to feel like garbage

Princess Peachie literally made a video about this forever ago

it's literally jsut clothes. You put it on and wear it. Who cares if people give you weird looks, trust me, they do if you wear anything outside of "normal" whether it's got or lolita or just a out-of-the-norm coat/handbag, etc. Who cares. If you want to wear it, you have to just wear it no matter what others say. There is no other way.

First of all you're only 'too old" for lolita when you're dead,it's never too late to start, you just gotta know what looks good on you at what age. You buy and rock that shit anon, even if it's gonna be hanging in your closet you'll get to look at it and have that "damn right this is mine and i love it,it looks great and i like looking at it" feeling.
Even if you only wear it at home at first you get to look at yourself in your mirrors and feel cute as fuck while doing chores. And what about the people outside? You're either never gonna see them ever again or if you see them again and they ask, just say you think it's fun (and if they judge you harshly, they're probably idiots who are missing out on living life,so not a big loss if they don't agree with your life choices),it's never too late to wear lolita,it's never too late to have fun. Even if it's "alone" but in lolita you're never truly alone,we are plenty, and you'll definitely find friends.
Just buy the damn dress,it's better than have it and regret than regret not having it.

but seriously, this is what I do. Weekendlita is still lolita. Not my fault that I can't wear it to work.

This. I look at my dresses all the time. I even just get up and touch them. They feel great.

Well I work almost 70 hours a week (Monday to Saturday 9 am to 9 pm) and when I'm off work I come home and rest. My only day off is Sunday so yeah... I do work a lot.

When I do go out (maybe 1-2 times a month) I don't have lolita friends, so I feel like if I wore lolita they might resent me or find it cringey. So i don't know...

>> No.10035896

Dude just fucking do it, do you want to be 40 and thinking about how you missed your chance to try something because you didn't want to spend a few hundred dollars when you could afford it for a dumb reason? If it just sits around you can sell it.

Same, I have to wear scrubs at work so weekends and my holidays are the only time I have to wear lolita. Doesn't matter if I'm going to the shops or for a walk, I'll throw on my outfit and go out! I really love lolita and will wear it whenever I can.

>> No.10035932

We have people between their 30's and 40's in our comm, and no one questions it. They don't really wear sweet and keep to gothic and classic, but nothing stops them from attending meets and events.

I think one of the older ones even is a lifestyler because she's an artist so she works from home.

>> No.10035951

it's easier to be in lolita when you're older anyway. i got into lolita as a young teenager in the mid-2000s and wore awful handmade and then eventually bodyline and "spent all money on the main piece" type coords for years. now I'm 27 and have disposable income and look way better, plus it's more fun to be able to save and afford new pieces

Do you ever go out without your friends? Wear it on those occasions.

Or casually bring up lolita to your friends in conversation, your interest in it, etc, that way you don't completely blindside them if you decide to wear it out with them one day.

Nope, you can work in retail and work that much.

>source, work in retail and work that much

It's definitely not legal, but as long as my managers finesse my schedule so it looks like I'm not working more than 40 hours per week, they can get away with it.

I know plenty of people who wear and pull of very good sweet styles at 29-35! I don't think starting at 24 is too late! i'm 21 and i just started not that long ago but it's such a wonderful joy in my life. as long as you're responsible about purchases do it! and wear it whenever!! i don't get out much so i'll wear it out to go do errands or go visit friends, i feel good and i usually get compliments from older ladies about it!

Call your local news station and report it with proof? In my town whenever anyone has a problem with a company/local govn't they call the news station and we get a story on their situation. Usually helps inspire public outrage. Seems to work pretty well. But I live in Canada so who knows
