All through middle school my big breasted friend told me I look like a boy and would never be pretty, and now that I finally found a fashion I feel cute in my comm members keep telling me basically the same thing indirectly. Every single meetup there’s someone bitching about how Asians are flat and ugly and brand is cut for unattractive child bodies. Wow, you're the same as me then. I'm also an Asian living in a Western country and I'm happy that after many years I've finally found a fashion that fits my body type. Finally, I'm not the one feeling defeated in the fitting room because my boobs don't "fill out" the chest part of a dress. I can feel cute and confident. Fuck those assholes who used to tell me no one would love me because my chest is "flat like a little boy's". I got engaged after almost 9 years being together with my bf.

And yeah, I'm also slightly annoyed when lolitas complain they can't fit because "it's made for microscopic boobs". Japanese brand are catering more to their local customers and Asians aren't known for big boobs as we know. There's a lot of other indie brands that cater to more sizes anyway. Kinda feel happy that classic brands like VM and MM haven't changed their brand sizing either so I'd feel like I have somewhere to belong. Just like plus size girls have their own space, I'd like one where I get to be happy being small.

Most items I buy from western sellers smell of perfume or of body odeur/sweat/cigarettes. Just fucking stop it. I rather have the seller stating the item is in uncleaned condition, so I know what I get. The most disgusting items also come from people that I know personally and even some friends. People have no fucking shame.
I also guess that some people legit don't notice their own smell, so after a few purchases like this I got worried about my own sales even though I know I am not a filthy person, and now I clean every single item before shipping it out.

When I buy from the Japanese second hand market, it's not nearly as bad. I never had stuff smelling like BO, only a few cases with perfume smell and some just had this smell of being very old and sitting in a closet for years untoched.

Doesn't stop me from being jealous sometimes because of how med/big boobs are hailed as the "best thing" and i feel inadequate/less of a real woman for not having curves

>> No.10029851

I feel you. I would love to see more western clothes that aren't trying to accommodate entirely for large busts. I'm glad that there are tons of button-ups made for big chests, but what about my below-average chest?
I lost enough weight to go from a DD to a 32B, which is small for my tall frame (5'9), and lolita fits great on me (especially you, Innocent World). I wanted to chop my breasts off before losing the weight, and now I'm caught between wanting to keep them smaller and wanting to fill out western dresses and tops.
Them big tiddy girls complaining about lolita sizing have no clue about how good they have it here in the west. Every store wants to put clothes on their body.
They bought the dress, they're allowed to have it modified to suit them. If I have to take in a western dress, they can have their lolita let out.

>> No.10029854

Our western culture has taught people that in order to wash clothes, you put them in a machine with soap and walk away. Sure, we might have learned how to sew something in secondary school, but we didn't learn how to handwash our garments. Even stain and spot treatment is something we often learn on our own.
I had to sit down and research handwashing and garment care methods before I washed a dress for the first time. I went and bought a drying rack, a large bucket (no bathtub or laundry sink here), and some gentle detergents and worried the entire way through the process. When I inspected the dress afterwards, I had built the confidence I needed to keep doing it. No one walked me through it, because the people around me relied on machines to do the work. I understand how western lolitas can be so gross- it's hard to know exactly how to handle some of these designer pieces.

On the other hand, I have cow tits and while I appreciate that like, my boyfriend likes them, I hate them because of the way they make things awkward fitting in lolita and some normie clothes too. I also hate just being sexualized unwillingly - I never wear low cut stuff because I don't want to attract attention to them because I already do with just normal cut items. I don't find them particularly helpful in non-lolita clothing. I just wish that we could all stop taunting people's body types in general. No more taunting girls with tiny boobs who can't help how their body grows, no more harassing girls with huge boobs who can't help how their body grows, etc. I think there's frustrations to be had on all ends of the spectrum and I think ultimately what people need to learn is just basic respect, decency, and kindness. I hate people who make fun of things for being cut for "kids bodies" etc. it's just super rude and I'm always appalled when I see or hear people say things like that. If you don't like it when people make fun of your body, you shouldn't do the same for others. Not saying lolitas are supposed to be lovelies or whatever but the fashion is most fun when we all can just enjoy ourselves and give each other helpful concrit and not just tear down the bodies of people who are, first of all, creating the fashion. Would love to have sizing that accommodates a better range of sizing but you can't complain too much considering the original intended audience.

I've had a ton of items from Japanese sellers (auctions/mercari/fril) that had terrible storage odor or were really mildewed that wasn't disclosed in the listing. I've also had stuff from WW that had overall odor (not like terrible sweaty smell, just old) and clearly hadn't been washed. It's no more normalised for Japanese girls to clean before sending out than it is over here IMO, and I've sometimes got stuff with other minor damage or discoloration.

About 20% of the LM purchases I've made have had undisclosed issues. The worst were a bag that turned out to be peeling/flaking, items with severe pilling, and velveteen that was shedding because it was clearly washed how it shouldn't have been. I've never had more than very minor storage/perfume odor from a LM purchase though.

I finally found something that fits, and I really don't want them to take it away. For the anon who said "fabric quality is shit" your correct answer should have been "we know that, but it's darn cute and cheap and we're willing to take the lower quality". That would have communicated what you're saying here, that you know taobao is shit but cute shit.

Instead there’s this whole dance around while some anons try and complain about AP quality, even posting a photo where AP’s dress is wrinkled but the fabric actually looks better. And that’s before you even take into account that Japanese brands aren’t allowed to shoop their sales photos but taobao brands can.

Even the one pointing out the wrinkles has a point, are people just not seeing how the skirt fabric wrinkles around the applique itself? This isn't just a dress not being ironed like the AP example, this is the applique distorting the skirt because the applique is too heavy for it, and the skirt fabric is, indeed, shit.

I'd like to believe people know what they're getting into when they buy taobao, but the comments themselves lack the depth that communicates the taobao shills even notice any of these awful quality problems.

I think they've suffered because their designs come off as outdated and they get forgotten about because they don't have new releases often, but they still have really great basics. I feel like they were a more serious lolita brand 10+ years ago but ended up with more and more of their offering catering to cosplayers and teenagers. Sort of like a more respectable Bodyline, since their prices are cheaper than standard (about 60% of what you'd pay for a new AP/IW blouse). Pity that's still too high to get newbies to consider their stuff, they do these blouses with two kinds of detachable collars and detachable sleeves that are crazy versatile.

Mine was pic related, I found it in a secondhand alternative clothing store for about $50. I had been a fan of lolita since like, myspace/LJ days but was too poor to get into it at the time, I was like 16 or something, I was living away from home in public housing and it was probably the roughest time in my life. And finding this dress was the ultimate escape from my shitty life. I had never seen a lolita or actual lolita clothes in person before. So i bought it and wore it all the time, I was ita as fuck, sure. But I still own it and wore it just the other day. I've thought about selling it cos although it still fits my oldschool wardrobe, an all-pink coord is a bit sweet for me, but I just style it with striped socks and a tie blouse to make it more punky. It also got a few stains over the years so I've dyed it a darker pink, it came out really nice actually, as the waist ribbons amd corset lacing remained the light pink so it's actually easier to coord with diff shades of pink so its not as cutesy. Anyway this dress holds so much sentimental value to me, I could never sell it. It gives me those happy floaty lolita feels just by looking at it, and it's a reminder of how far I've come and makes me appreciate all my hard work to get out of that shitty situation.

do you have any real reasons to purge? If it's not a financial strain maybe try approaching Lolita like you would a figurine or art collection.

You could try doing KonMari and actually trying everything on. Trying stuff on in person motivates me to sell what doesn't fit well, feels uncomfortable or looks awkward on me.

Can be bad when it works in reverse though...I tried on all my sale pile and ended up keeping a couple of things just because they had amazing fit.

Also when you have beautiful coordinate photos of something as a record it can be easier to let it go.

That sounds perfect, I live in the US and my comm totally ignores all the cute little historic towns/ cities in favor of stressful big city locations that are hard to get to

Just running out of space. I don't have any financial worries but most of my dresses are sealed away in plastic boxes, which makes me sad. I feel like I'm not giving them the love they deserve.

>>10031926
I'll try doing that, thank you!

You could also try organizing by season. That way you only have the dresses you can wear out of storage.

>SFE ticket announcement
>doesn't mention any prices
>first round tickets on sale Nov 24
>first round for past attendees, vendors, donors, volunteers only
>leftover tickets (if any) offered to everyone else after

I am so nervous about not getting tickets for things to begin with, all this is making me lose hope fast.

Good luck anon. They just posted another announcement making the whole ticket reservation procedure sound even more BS.

>To register for tickets, please email ... stating your name, any past SFE events you have attended, if you have attended with your brand or donated to any past events and whether you have ever volunteered for a SFE event.
> We will email you back before tickets are on sale on the 24th of November to let you know if you have qualified for the initial ticket sale and the ticket link. Tickets that do not sell out will be made available to everyone who registered.

I know I probably sound like a whiny entitled shithead but I just don't understand why they're making this so complicated and exclusive? I count myself lucky that I might be able to drop a lot of $$ for tickets at short notice no matter the price, but it's still not ideal, and not everyone is so fortunate.

I'm not hating on SFE, I've wanted to go to an SFE event for many years and their previous events always looked wonderful, I'm sure this will be amazing, too. But it's almost like they don't want anybody new coming along. I feel weird about that.

I'm having to budget myself now for the next few weeks and I might not even be able to get tickets after all this. WTF, SFE?

The cotton dresses are lined with polyester so I’m not really sure why people are so obsessed with cotton. It just wrinkles easily so most lolitas who can’t be bothered to iron look like trash... and then it’s not even breathable which is the main selling point of natural fibers.

>> No.10032343

>>10032233
Because it's more durable. If you're mostly buying jsks, the lining isn't as important as you can choose a cotton blouse/cutsew and the majority of the lining will be against your petti.

To be fair to polyester chiffon, it's easy to wash and less likely to fade or colour bleed.

But the vast majority of dresses aren't seasonal. You can wear berry prints in winter with a coat. You can wear velveteen in spring and fall with short sleeves or long depending on the weather. There are a handful of prints I wouldn't wear year round. It's a strange idea to me that you would consider alt fashion seasonal, nothing in lolita besides the wool coats and capes is truly seasonal

>> No.10032382

>>10032359
I change the fabrics I'll wear and colors. I like wearing the velvets and tartans in winter and the berry prints in summer. Sure you don't have to, but since I have a larger closet, it increases the chances I wear everything and I don't continue wearing my favorite dress over and over. I also think I'd get way to hot to ever consider velvet in summer.

>> No.10032476

>>10032343
It’s not more durable though. Polyester is the fabric that’s more durable. It lasts longer, doesn’t fade as quickly, can be handled more roughly, and it’s also stain resistant. Maybe you are referring to a certain type of fabric weave that’s more delicate? But talking about fiber content polyester is better in terms of durability.

>> No.10032758

>>10032476
I'm referring to AP's polyester. I agree on the fibers themselves being durable considering it's plastic and takes years to biodegrade, but AP polyester weaves will continue to have pin holes and snags that I can't remove.
