There's only so much you can do with a dress like this but what you have done isn't that bad, my main gripes would be hair and makeup.
If you're wearing a full skirt you need volume to your hair to balance it out, plus wearing dark colours and no makeup makes you look really washed out (personally I think a dark red, but not overdrawn, lip would look nice). Additionally, you could pair your choker with a simple long necklace or cross to combat the plain bodice of the dress. The mini hat, while not inherently out of place, makes you look like a newbie or 'coslita' as those things went out of fashion almost a decade ago, and were rarely done well to start with.

Ah, yes the hair. I'm still learning how to do hairstyles other than braids lol. The makeup thing I was already aware of. Left my makeup back at my parents house, but I have it now for next time. I think if you're planning to pursue gothic, I would suggest investing in a pair of big, stompy platform heels (if you're comfortable walking in them). I find that they often really help pull a look together and give it a definitively gothic feel. The shoes you have right now look relatively normie instead of lolita, and while they don't detract from your coord, they're not really adding anything to it either.

I really like your hair being down in the second version. I think in the first one, since there's less volume on your head, it looks a bit unbalanced or "bare" compared to your lower half with the petti and all. You have nice hair, and it really improves the balance in your second coord. Keep it up!

Nah, not a great coord. The ears do look cheap. I'll give a pass on black/orange because October. The fringy shawl thing and fishnets look cheap. You could have at least pulled the bow on the top out of the front of the shawl so it didn't look crushed and stupid with the bow ends just flopping awkwardly out. The necklace looks out of place and doesn't go with anything. The best thing about this coord is the dress itself. Everything else is just dragging it down.

I love underskirts but this one clashes way too much. Should have used a blue one in the same colour os the frills if you want to wear this dress with an underskirt. Needs to look like an extension, not like a random different coloured ruffle. I feel the tophat looks cheap (as in matierial). I would suggest leaving it out of any coord because of that. Same for the necklace. Chokers like that aren't know to be the best. If you're on budget, even an Aliexpress lace choker will be better, although I would suggest buying an actually nice quality one. 1. Ditch the mini hat. Go with headdress or hats. In this case a headdress with some red would work as suggested.

2. Do something with your hair. Look at cof for how ppl style theirs but you need to do more than just have it down. Big thing is volume. You can do a bun, tease your hair, pig tails, there is a lot that can be done to fake some volume you may not naturally have

3. Gothic is better with heavier makeup. Go strong with lips or eyes. I would also focus on posing and what looks good, here your face looks a bit off kinda like you couldn’t see well. It’s something with time and practice for sure, but I try to angle my head a bit left or right or look elsewhere to create dynamic pics

4. Ditch the taobao for brand, and go for simple prints. This print is cutesy even in black to the point I wouldn’t call it gothic

5. If you want to add elements like red in the tights you need to highlight it, I like your legs but they didn’t show off that detail. Also noticing that with that you needed to bring colour up top to balance.

6. Imo join a group like big sisters on fb, you can ask them about your outfit and changes, better than ita thread. Contrary to popular belief, people do give crit if you seek it.

I own both these and Pleaser Dolly. Those Bodyline ones are a bit more doll-like, and super comfortable. They are the only Bodyline item I still own simply because of how nice and comfortable they are.

Personally, I love Pleaser Dolly a bit mroe because they look a bit more mature, but that's personal taste really. They have the sole/heel and straps from "typical" lolita platforms, but the front of a pump so they make your feet look a bit smaller and because the tip doesn't come up they don't get this doll-like effect.They are more narrow in shape tho, but also super comfortable unless you have wide feet.

Demonia has some with this more doll-like front. Wider and moving a bit up. However, my Pleaser Dolly shoes are labelled Demonia Dolly for some reason. In the end it's all Pleaser USA anyways...

I used to own Pleaser Electra knee high boots, and they where the perfect winter boots. I had the stretchy PU version and they broke quickly. The whole PU got torn apart. Because they are expansive in my country thank to being import so I haven't bought new ones since fearing I waste my money, but I love them so much. I figured I give them another change because Pleasers shape is the perfect balance between mature and sexy, but not out of lolita boundaries. Other are or too sexy (which is easy) or too innocent and doll-like, and even knock-offs I saw didn't really nail it down like Pleaser does. If those Dolly ones hold up I wanna try the non-stretchy boots.

Amastacia is all none printed gothic stuff... Which you would know if you indeed owned them all... Surface Spell you should try none printed too, I have no experience with printed their items. I wear gothic, and I have some items of these two brands that are nicer than some of my brand items. I also hear good things about Ichigo15 but haven't tried. Basically, you need the gothic lolita brands that where around before that Chinese lolita trend.

I agree a lot of TaoBao is fast fashion relying on prints and trends, but not all is. You need to learn to distinguish the quality stuff from the crap.

FoxFeathers and such have some nice designs that are gothic in style instead of cute creepy prints, which is why I name them. I've got no personal experience with them.

Printed gothic is nothing new tho, and brand isn't always superior. It's just a save choice if you can't tell the good from the bad.

I've bought Amastacia. The good dress was decent but the fabric was pretty much Bodyline quality. That's the good dress. The second dress was a disaster. Thin fabric, arrived wrinkled and was straight for like two seconds after ironing, looked nothing like the stock photos the entire time I tried to wear it. Kind of a waste of money, and this coming from someone who expected Bodyline quality or less. That's why I can't believe someone is reccing Amastacia, and someone who doesn't even own any at that.

The main reason you don't hear about taobao drama is because it happens on weibo. The chinese lolitas take their grievances to weibo because the taobao brands are also on weibo. If you're only looking on facebook or cgl you will only hear about brand drama, meanwhile taobao brands go down in fiery flamewars on weibo. R-series has drama on weibo, some shouting match with a customer. I mainly don't buy R-series because after the first dress the other two items I bought were wildly different sizes, completely off from their own measurement table. Surface Spell Gothic has a rep for being really slow. I got my dress after two months and apparently that's considered fast.

Then there's Krad Lanrete. You can only preorder through a chinese lolita comm. So you're always stuck letting middlemen fleece you for the chance to preorder, or picking over the shop for leftovers. And the pricing without the preorder is higher by as much as $80-100. Did you want to suck Chinese dick so hard that you'd let them take your money for nothing other than not being in a chinese lolita comm? It doesn't even go towards the cost of making a better dress, you're mainly excluded because you can't join a chinese lolita comm.

There was a recent incident where people were complaining about a dress so hard that the store owner threatened to commit suicide. I'm not a brandwhore and I love a lot of the stuff I've bought on Taobao but I fully agree that if people are just going to buy things on the basis of Facebook pictures or "I like this because the print has cheese wearing party hats" or whatever, they are going to be sorely disappointed probably anywhere from 20%-80% of the time.
