Buying a physical print doesn't not mean you have the copyright of the original photo. It means you have ownership of a physical item.

The whole situation was that the photo was clearly edited to hide his watermark. He tried talking to her about it, he was ignored and went public. It kinda shows you just how little power of voice cosplayers give photographers until it is public.
