Does anyone have any tips on making long coats? I'm currently planning a genderbent Kyoko Sakura from Madoka Magica and I figured her dress could fairly easily be converted into an overcoat, but I've never actually made anything from scratch before.

I realise I'm probably kind of in over my head with this, but there are around 6 months until the con rolls around so I should have plenty of time to work on this.
