Depends on how dark you are. Sometimes you can get away with cosplaying a tan character.
There are a few characters that are black, but pretty much every black person has cosplayed all of them, since there's so few.
You can also do characters that have masks/all skin covered.

The final option is to not give a fuck.
Plus if you nail the rest of the cosplay, people will look past the skin inaccuracy.

It sounds like he's the kind of guy that's only nice to girls he wants to fuck and rude as shit to any others. Like it's black and white to him. Hell maybe he's this bad because he knows you have a boyfriend and his chances are shot.
You shouldn't want to be friends with guys like that. Give him a fedora for Christmas if he doesn't have a collection already.

Anyway, I'd just try to interact with him as little as possible. Don't even be polite to him, just neutral or slightly cold. There's not much of a point reasoning with him.
And your boyfriend is a dick for justifying it. Maybe he's the same way, if he doesn't see what's wrong with this. You can try bringing up to him that he's shitty for not doing anything about it, as your boyfriend he should at least be sympathetic toward your feelings.

I wouldn't say you're overthinking this, you're just putting too much hope into it. They're assholes.
