what aRE THOSE?!?!?
really though the shoes are a prime example of why blouseless coords are often ita or at best, lackluster. if you're willing to forgo attention to detail in one area of an outfit, it's likely you will have the same careless attitude with the rest of it. And there is no reason you can't cover up in hot weather, sheer/mesh blouses exist. And if >>9934175
can wear thin tights then you can wear a blouse. I have nothing against blouseless coords but 99% of the time it doesn't work. Wear an OP, or at least choose a JSK with a neckline/straps that don't look stupid on their own.

Also so many of these examples are awful, OP

There is definitely other looks. Just stay away from sweet elements. I don't know how to describe it exactly as I'm not native speaker but try to achieve that melancholic edwardian feel to distant yourself from classic. Or wear what you like without thinking about too much.

Ugh, I wish we could swap bodies for a day. That was my dream dress since I got into lolita some 9 years ago, and unfortunately, it will always be my dream dress because Mary Magdalene only makes dresses for people without ribcages and muscle mass, and now they're a dying brand.

Even as an older lolita, I know what you mean - as much as it was endearing, a lot of the elements are unflattering, but keep in mind that much of it has to do with the mainstream street styles and other influences of the time (and I don't necessarily mean Tokyo tribal youth group fashion). It was normal to find platformed shoes and other pieces like that in street fashion boutiques, and the makeup and hair trends of the time usually came off as harsh. Additionally, this was when lolita brands were gaining prominence and both fans and brands were still shaping the style like we do today.

One thing I liked about "old school" looks was how people were trying to come up with princess or dolly looks, and because graphic design programming was pretty rudimentary then, there was a focus on design over prints, but they were still pretty simple and tended to be patterns.
