I'm fairly new to working with craft materials, but I'm wondering what the best way to go about making a pair of skates look like this (red body with a green outer piece).

My idea was to use some kind of plastic-like material to cover the the skates with red material (rather than paint the skate itself so I can still re-use them after), and then another piece of material for the green to wrap around the top of it.

Any recommendations? I hear things like EVA foam or Wonderflex, but I'd like to make sure the best way to go about doing it, especially since it'll be going around an ankle. Maybe something more pliable like a rubber material?
