We're talking sweet-styled, pastel salopettes, right? In that case imo sneakers are fine as long as you get ones that match your overall look. AP's sneakers are just clunky and silly enough to look super cute with salopettes and casual lolita, and pic related is fine too, again given that they match your coord.
Other options that you have are other large clunky shoes and platforms - Not heels, mind you. There are plenty of sweet styled shoes like this and they'll look just as cute (if not cuter) than sneakers.
