Eh, I've had weird patches of hair for years and haven't got any greys. I think it's just a pigment thing.
The same way that people who are lacking in melanin in certain patches get really fine, shitty hairs; Maybe more melanin results in coarser hairs.

I've gone from platinum-blonde (pink) hair to one coat of box black which has mostly faded out to a gross ashy tone - Now I'm going to let it grow for six months, bleach the shit out of it and make it silver.
