I keep hearing people say 'your natural colour always suits you best' but just like there are unfortunate-looking faces, can't there be unfortunate hair colours (relative to the skin undertone, sure)?

My natural colour is absolute ass. I'm a warm-toned Soft Autumn and my hair is 'natural black', aka a very very ashy, cool and dark brown. I can never make it work, it always makes me look dirty.

I've been dyeing it chocolate brown or auburn for years and I hate the money, upkeep and my roots showing (and do they ever). If I do warm highlights the contrast is too strong and it ends up looking trashy.

Pic related is close to my natural colour. For context, my skin is around NARS Siberia-ish with some slightly darker areas.
