Let's talk about what corsets do and don't do. Ratchet-ass photoshop attached.

If you're a guy, corsets will reduce your waist 2-3 inches, a bit more than you might get from sucking your gut in. You can get more reduction than this, but that requires corset training- a time consuming process that you can look up elsewhere if you're interested. The major benefit that you see from a corset is that it changes your silhouette by pulling in your sides by making your waist more of a circle- see ratchet-ass photoshop. This shape of waist does not look good with most types of clothing- you mostly want to wear it with a dress or period-style clothing.

Corsets don't permanently change your shape. Unless you've worn one from a young age and it shaped your skeleton as you grew- like anon mentioned above.

Corsets restrict the way you move. you don't bend at the waist when you wear one. They can also be uncomfortable, especially after a few hours of wearing one. To get the most comfortable corset with the most reduction, you'll need to get one custom made. $$$

Unless you're going for a period-style outfit that requires a corset to look good, you're probably better off with some shapewear & pads. It'll be more comfortable, you can move & breathe more easily, and you'll still be able to build a feminine silhouette. Unlike the guy in my terrible illustration.
