Anon, I agree with you but dig deeper here. Most people don't consider tax money to be a charity fund. The real anger comes the perception that we as taxpayers trust the government to properly utilize those funds for the betterment of us civilians. Seeing that money handled in ways that we feel aren't helpful is what makes the anger. I don't think anyone believes we should never be taxed or we should decide to voluntarily fund these infrastructures ourselves.

Someone needs to be in charge of it. And the anger is directed to those in charge. Whether or not they actually are mishandling funds is up for debate, but the feeling that they are is all one needs to feel cynical towards the whole situation.

Most people who make the claim that "our" tax money is being wasted in programs like that aren't making a direct statement about how they feel they've donated into the wrong pot. They make the claim to emphasize that they have distrust in the infrastructures that have been in place, and yet despite not wanting to support said infrastructures they are REQUIRED to. Most of these people agree that the infrastructure proved by taxes is a necessity and aren't against that, but they're against the programs in place and feel we would do better with those programs revamped.

Considering the failure rate of welfare systems getting people out of poverty, I'm inclined to agree. Just not bitter at where my tax money goes; I understand that even if it's an imperfect system it's just an intermediary until we eventually improve like we always have as a species.
