to expand on previous post... the way i see it:

fashion is about expressing yourself well. trends come and go; cultivating a personal style is more important than worrying about what others think. if your personal style involves different contacts, go for it. some people wear ships on their heads. that's just their thing.

"too costumey" would only be an issue if it was adversely disrupting the social world around you (i.e., wearing giant mecha wings in the mall).
