>Shop at Home Depot pretty regularly for filler primer, paints, bondo, sandpaper, gloves and the rest
>Not long after I begun shopping there once a week plus, I began a cordial friendship with an older worker there named Jim
>It all began when I asked him where the filler primer was, he said that’s a specific request and depending on what I need it for there are other and better alternatives
>Just be honest with him tell him I’m using it to make a cosplay

>“Oh that’s like Boba Fett, yeah my Grandson Troy loves Star Wars I think I’ve sent him stuff for Christmas with him on it”
>Every time I come in after that Jim is always really friendly
>Jim always asks how my progress is coming and asks to see photos of my cosplays and of me at cons
>“Gee Anon I wish those fests were around when I was your age, I used to love reading comic books and would have loved to have dressed like Batman in my youth”
>Time before last (about a week ago) I went to Home Depot Jim wasn’t there, figured he was probably off, it’s happened before
>Go in again yesterday, a day he almost always works
>Jim isn’t there again
>Ask another older lady coworker of his who knows him where he is
>“I’m sorry Anon, Jim entered hospice care last week, I guess his kidney problems came back hard and he got Covid and isn’t recovering… From what I hear it’s just more about comfort than recovery now”
>tfw I’m probably never gonna see my Home Depot Boomer Buddy again
