in an earlier thread, i wondered why the theme of "dining with the subject" kept occurring in portraits. i think part of it may be an expression of the experience of consuming fashion and art. the food is another type of collection.

similarly, subjects are often photographed as they select foods from a varied spread. a discerning eye develops in alternative fashionistas as they cultivate their image according to their tastes.
