In the event of economic collapse, would it be a better idea to stock up on a bunch of tiny gold bars because it would make it easier to barter for stuff, or on giant 1kg bars because they're easier to carry?

Ideally a range of bar sizes anon. Some tiny 10g bars to shave off for day to day purchases like coffee or your local, friendly mcdonalds. Some small 1kg bars to carry around for larger spur of the moment purchases and a few giant 20kg bars to add to like your savings accounts

Buy silver for smaller purchases. Fractional silver rounds and gram size bars are more expensive proportionally, but it is good to diversify. Even small gold pieces like 1/10 troy ounce coins and gram bars are good to have. My portfolio calls for an even split between gold and silver by dollar cost, but it's not the only strategy out there.

I've been stacking gold for years (pic related). Actually only part of my collection as I have more in a safety deposit box

Bigger is always better when it comes to metals, the smaller you buy the more over spot price you are going to pay. Bigger bars like the 250g valbambi suisse bar I have will usually go for under spot.

I also would say only buy bars if you only care about investment as you are paying a premium for coins but they are more fun to collect

Btw, one of the biggest mistakes I ever made in my life was cashing out half my BTC stack when it was $700 and buying gold with it

Gold is pretty much worthless now. Might as well switch to crypto.
