If BTC were to go sideways over time, that means it’s become stable and is now more suitable for everyday adoption than ever, which will encourage that. It would be the fulfillment of Satoshi’s vision. It also means that the alts would more or less decouple from BTC to become the source of speculation and profit because now a satoshi has stable value, too.
