Sorry to break up circlejerk but I feel like some of ya'll might benefit.

A tariff if a tax that a business has to pay a nation when they want to export their product to that nation. When Trump says he wants to place tariffs on steel and aluminum, this means that Chinese steel manufacturers will have to pay extra to bring their product into America. These tariffs are directly reflected in the price of the goods, so now Chinese steel costs more. The end goal of this is to increase US steel manufacturing and make people more likely to buy US steel instead of the more expensive Chinese steel.

Thing is, China will not like this. So, they also place tariffs on good that they import from us. Thus, China responds placing tariffs on Basedbeans, so now US basedbeans are more expensive and Chinese people will buy less US basedbeans.

This is the beginnings of a trade war. More degrees of escalation, including higher tariffs and tariffs on a wider range of goods, lead to less and less trade between nations since it's too expensive to buy their products.

Trade wars hurt both nations' economies. Chinese steel manufacturers will shut down plants since Americans no longer buy their steel, while US Basedbean farmers will take hits on their crops since China no longer buys our cheap basedbeans. One nation might be hurt more than the other, so this has yet to be seen. Eventually one of both nations cave and sign a trade deal, bilaterally lowering tariffs on each others' goods and kickstarting both of their economies.

You're forgetting that the American economy doesn't really benefit from free trade, especially the low tarrifs on Chinese crap. It has actually hurt us. But certain large key U.S. industries see increased profit. China benefits much more, as they have little regulation and exploited workers with low wages. U.S. economy has always been stronger on it's own. Basically our overlords are selling us out to China so they can make a buck

The people and companies who are able to buy affordable Chinese products obviously benefit. Chinese consumers lose by having to pay more for American imports or settle for lower-quality domestic products. There is no benefit to restricting trade, you’re an economically illiterate low-IQ commie

Literally who cares? The steel and aluminum industry is orders of magnitude more valuable, and we already have subsidies in place to keep those farmers afloat. Really the chinese were just getting cheap crops subsidized by US taxpayers.
