Bank settlements are currently as necessary as they are complicated. Once Oracles simplify the transaction banks will be able to cut costs, but will be also make themselves unnecessary. People get paid every 2 weeks because financial transactions take days to settle & are expensive to make. Through Smart Contracts and distributive ledgers people could instead get paid daily or even constantly based on their contributions; banks would fade into obscurity as their use as a transaction middleman & way to securely store assets would be replaced.
