I work for a Futures Broker in Chicago and there are tons of very successful (7 figure) day traders, however most go bust in 5-10 years. Only know of one guy that's been trading for a long time. Most who get rich day trading quit day trading and put their money into better investments.

The "90% fail" is a meme, at least for the futures market. The FCM I work for has over 100K accounts, and 56% were profitable in 2014, and many had high returns. It's just most futures traders have small accounts, and only 13% of those profitable made enough money to be considered "professional" or successful.

Average round turn commission + fees is $5. 1 tick in /ES is $12.50. 1 tick in /CL is $10. 1 tick in /ZB is $31.25. You can close after 1 tick and still be NET profitable. Fees don't kill you. This isn't the 90s. People who complain about commissions are retarded to begin with. They are more than reasonable.
