Python - machine learning, AI
Java - Android apps

33yo boomer here. I took BASIC in high school and loved it. Tried a couple times, half assed admittedly, to get into programming and when I look at the code of modern languages I just feel retarded and I don't like that feel. But hey like a true brainlet I'm an engineer now so it's all good.

A more natural progression is to learn concepts, then do programming challenges, and then pick up languages as needed.

No need to torture yourself learning syntax like a Pajeet and end up writing spaghetti.

I never learned to code properly because I could never find a vanity project that was relatively easy to accomplish but also useful, but also wasn't a entirely a copy-paste job so I could learn how the actual language 'works' and solve problems myself.

If I could think of something that would take me under a week to complete but would be of real, ongoing use to me, I'd start learning to code.

This guy is the best teacher on youtube, imo, for arithmetic. And start from the absolute basic foundations, like in this playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33zr1NQ7DeI&list=PLAi17iVpKWQS6YLG_bnZoqQBi_x9uo9m5 where his initial videos show how to use a number line.

What in the fuck are you talking about, when you work you're getting paid - the motivation is there because you need food in your stomach and a roof over your head. You care because your survival is at stake!

I'm unsure what that anon was trying to get at, people do need to be more concise about how they code up an idea, but it takes time to become good at doing that.

Most compsci students will do 2 courses in their university which will introduce them to optimization of code:

1.Algorithms and Data structures: Here you learn what an algorithm is, how to measure an algorithm's performance, in order to make comparisons. This involves maths to do with exponents/logarithms, sequences and series, set theory, and calculus.

2.Discrete Mathematics: These courses are taught to compsci students to essentially show them how to model a solution to a problem, then test if that solution works under ALL cases (their taught different sorts of Proofs). This mainly involves Logic, set theory, and algebra.

Creating non-spaghetti code takes time to get the handle of. Just start by learning and doing.
