Gun crime hasn't fallen in australia and its only made things more difficult for law abiding citizens. I'm an Australian, have my firearms permit, follow all the laws and regulations, and yet theres still shootings amongst criminals, armed robberies and knife attacks. Banning isnt the answer, the market will still continue for criminals, because there is still a market for it. Theres customers and theres sellers, the fact is that banning something doesn't make it magically disappear it just move underground. The same as drug trade, the real answer is focusing on what pushes these kids to go and harm their peers. Why are they so hateful? Why do they want to hurt others and then themselves? What pushes a person to that point that they lose their empathy? Stop blaming guns, and start looking at why people are going mad and shooting each other and fix that. Make schools accesible only from 1-2 or if multiple entrances are necessary ensure you have a security guard in every entrance, metal detectors, it’s not like American ghetto schools already don’t have all this, just enforce it everywhere.

At the very least there should be 1 plan clothes officer or security guard trained to respond to the active shooter situation in that school who remains on the school ground.
I know schools already have police officers but maybe adding a second plain clothes one could serve as deterrence or stop the shooter in a short period.
The school police model right now is flawed because these officers not trained to respond to active shooter situations immediately, they should be forced into that position neither should be volunteers.

I think the best thing you can do is befriend the kids who are seen as the social outcasts or labeled as the school shooter or "that weird kid" and really be human with him at try to really be his friend.

Most of these school shooters are doing it out of rage for all the people that bully them or consider them weird or feel alone and isolated with no friends to talk to.

Basically spread the love. I know it sounds super hippie but it will work if you take the weird kids and try to include them in the conversation so that they don't feel alone and isolated. Everyone needs love and friendship, even the weird kid.

So remember kids, every time you talk to the weird kid, you are doing a public service and saving countless lives.
