Wednesday Morning Wu-Tang Financial Advice Edition

>where's the hedge fund?
A resident tripfag, obergruppenfuhrer (Comfy), requested that it be excluded until he gets the next version up and running. Will refund those involved. Stay tuned!

Popular brokers for stock trading:
>commission free and no minimum to open

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Interactive Brokers
>$1 commission per 100 shares. $10k minimum to open, $3k if 25 or under. Lowest margin interest. Free API access

yea i only had 1000 as well. not gonna get all flustered by it. im leaving behind the equities markets for now. going back to extracting wealth from SLV contracts. got a really good plan to start harvesting increased volatility in SLV.

gonna have to make a call on which way treasuries are moving. im thinking up for a bit, as that was a REALLY low low before it bounced yesterday. also likely taking a position in calls at XOP for more oil exposure and possibly a couple calls on SBUX for megacap swing memes (i know, i swore off equities, but the chart looks like a clock, and spreads are tight so why not?)

Morning all

>> No.9460254

XOP (gas and oil exploaration ETF) has a higher value underlying, thus more expensive options, but better leverage. thinking of buying a VERY longterm strangle/straddle on it if i can snag some at low IV.

i did the same with my USO calls yesterday. itll pullback at some point and well hop back on. if it goes for another spike i might even hop on DWT

>> No.9460259

Yea I usually play SLV or GLD. I think it's time to flip puts to calls, should've done that yesterday desu

>> No.9460309

Well if the dollar keeps rising, I'm going to stay bearish as fuck on GLD and SLV. Also if you have low gold and silver spot prices, combined with rising oil and fuel costs, your miners are going to get fucked hard. I mean buy DUST until like 6/6.

>> No.9460315

>Yea I usually play SLV or GLD
im getting back to my roots as well. this was my most profitable trades this year ($ wise) was on SLV and USO. gonna focus in on that.

personally, im trying something a little different than i used to though. trying to build a large position of 600+day strangles at really low IVs. if its moving up today ill buy more. but if i can get an average IV of like 18 on my strangle, and it starts going crazy, ill have made about 100% right there (even if the underlying stays still) just from the vega

>> No.9460319

>> No.9460337

all im looking for is low IV. im bearish on them in the near-mid term as well

i aint that far ahead of ya anymore m8. ive had a shit couple weeks trying to hack my strat into underlyings that DONT FUCKIN WORK WITH IT. fuck equities. at least, fuck equities that dont move entirely predictably. aint got time to manage that shit. gonna try SBUX maybe if vol is low

This markets been full autism since I got in during the Feb. CorrectionTM

>> No.9460439

does that mean vol? if so, thats why im trying to build up some strangles BEFORE then. the gains you get off both sides of the strangles will net me 100% per trade if IV increases 10%. and if its on a strangle then i literally dont have to worry about its movement/direction

I'm in the same position. Think of it this way...

You buy 200 shares of XYZ at $1.75. Your break even is $1.85. Selling below $1.85 will lose you money.

Story is, you will have to find something that will move enough to cover your commission. You might find the occasional stock that moves a lot quickly (IMTE from May 2nd comes to mind), but in all honesty, either you will need more money or do your research.

>> No.9464125

I was in a similar position and had to use $10/trade broker (later it became $7) you get absolutely blasted by commissions with $400.
Imagine it’s $10/trade so $20 to buy and sell a position. You go all-in for a $400 position. You need to make 5% just to break even. And that goes for smaller amounts: $200 buy = 10% gain to break even. $100 = 20%. So not only are you handicapped there but you also need to take massive risks (going all-in on one buy) just to profit.
When I went to robinhood I started making double what I was making on etrade. I keep the account with $1 so I can use their data. But robinhood is fucking god-tier cost cutting.

>> No.9464649

Technically it's in the realm of possibility but it's extremely unlikely and would take years unless you got incredibly lucky gambling on penny / sub-penny stocks.

You're better off putting some of your disposable income into your trading account every paycheck until you end up with enough money in there to actually "do something with".

Once you get $10k-$15k in your trading account then you can start making a decent amount of money on your trades instead of the peanuts you'll be making if you only have a few hundred dollars in your account.

Well then here's what you do -- start out with $500 that you "trade" with. Add some money to your account every paycheck that you only put into index funds so that it'll grow with the market and you won't lose it by making retarded trades. Do this until you're comfortable trading with larger amounts of money and then start taking a portion of your money out of the index funds and use that to "trade with" as well.

possible, but i think i'd rather contribute most of it to investments, and then if i was able to make my 500 into something substantial, even 5k, i would be able to take the same high risks i did with 500, or even 50k as long as it came from that initial deposit. i simply do not believe i could take the same actions or have the necessary level of "not caring" about outcomes needed to make the correct decisions if i was adding money i'd worked for, or "slow" money siphoned away from my main investments

No, don't sell yet, it's still in a strong uptrend. It'll at least get near the 52-week high of $63.42, maybe even break it temporarily before it has a big pullback. Consider selling at $60-$63.

Depends on how volatile the stock is, and if you're going long on it. If you believe IQ will really become as successful as NFLX, then hold it forever. I typically cut losses at 5%, but for some things you might believe that's the bottom. For example my $V calls are down 9% right now, but I expect them to balloon back up within the next week (hopefully)
