Sharding on Eth is much further away. It is harder to implement on an existing blockchain where you have to transfer the current state versus starting from scratch. Not to mention Ethereum aims for full state sharding off the bat (which may not even be possible due to intrinsic limitations such as security difficulty). Eth is going to be releasing Casper first so lets see how that goes before we consider them to be competing with ZIL on sharding.
