Is 22 too late to go to college?

I'm tired of being an unskilled stupid fucking slave wagecuck. For the past 4 years since high school I've been a $9.25/hr deli clerk, slicing meats and cheeses for menopausal secretaries on their way home from work. I want to fucking do something with my life.

In my spare time I've taken up programming and have a few small projects in my GitHub. I want to do CS, but is it weird going to college at this age?

>> No.9326142

how the hell it can be too late at age of 22 years?!
I would understand if you asked same question when you are 52 or so.. but now??

anyway, college won't guarantee you anything. it might expand your circle of connections, at best.

If you have done some programming stuff already - how about applying to junior positions within languages you already started to crack? You won't earn much, but you will get 1000% better real life working/programming experience. And after same 4 years spent in in college i guarantee you will earn at least 75k/year (you can reach 100k+ with proper effort & motivation btw).

hi anon i went back to school when i was 22 for machine tool tech. it helped land my job. if i didn't do that, i would still be hacking it as a cook in a sports bar hellhole.

i was a CS major, but i dropped out. i wasn't a fan of the program they had at my school. truth be told, i learned more in 2 hours watching slav-made C++ tutorials than i did during an entire semester.

i dont say that to discourage you, but instead to encourage you to supplement what you learn at school with outside information from every reach.. industry, youtube, blogs, manuals, whatever.. go nuts, and good luck my friend

No it's not too late. If you can be diligent about CS on your own, you might be able to save a lot of money. Some employers want to see the degree but others want to see that you can program and don't care.

Basically, can you learn it on your own and save money or do you need to be in an environment where you have to push yourself due to circumstance

Please don’t let all the peasants here convince you college isn’t worth it for CS. If you can afford college it will open 100x more doors than learning on your own or doing a trade. I work in CS and wouldn’t hire someone without a college degree. If anything the degree shows you’re able to commit 4 years to something difficult, and that you have Atleast some social skills.

You already have a portfolio, that's miles better than most CS graduates, just try applying for programming jobs, no need to go to college for that.

I'm a CS graduate, and I have plenty of classmates who somehow managed to graduate and get a degree but couldn't program their way out of a paper bag.

Go to a trade school. Even though it isnt what I really wanted to do, I went to a Universal Technical Institute and graduated from a diesel course after like a year, started making $20/hour a month after graduating. Started college a year afterwards at 20 y/o, still yung and fresh, already making $24/hr only 2 years out of high school. Yeah I got school bills to pay, but better than making a bare minimum that all these college kids are making for years after high school.
