Holding is definitely not a meme. Long term capital gains in the US are 20%, as opposed to 50% if you're cashing out more than approx 330k.

While that's only 30% less, that's a HUGE number when considering your final take away.

Let me walk you through it. My portfolio will be worth around 2.4MM dollars by the end of the year at which point I'll qualify for long term cap gains. Let's compare short vs long:

2.4MM

20% cap gains - pay $480,000 in tax, end up with $1,920,000 in pocket

50% income tax (aka "muh day trading" - pay $1,200,000 in tax, end up with $1,200,000 in pocket

That's a $720,000 POST TAX difference.

Now, to make $1,920,000 post tax by day trading, you would need to earn $3,840,000 as opposed to $2,400,000, which is a 60% increase, which is massive.

So basically, you're risking getting fucked over by scams, constantly worrying and checking crypto every second of the day, etc etc etc. AND you need to outperform holding by 60% for the same amount. It would be your full time job and consume all of your mind share, and I don't want to do that.

Trust me, if you're dealing with big numbers, hold for long term cap.
