No counterfeiting is portrayed as "valuable" but actually irrelevant because anyone can just duplicate the same whole system over and over again and flood the market with coins.

The "value" of bitcoin isn't it's brand-name. Supposedly it has value due to it limited supply. But this value can be exactly duplicated by a new coin that is equally "rare" since it also has a limited supply equal to the first. It's a scam.

SIAcoin obviously.

The value is in the network

If you make a website Facebook2 that perfectly clones Facebook are you equal in value to Facebook? No obviously because you have no users

Facebook has intellectual property protection - you can't make a facebook2.

Bitcoin is free and open-source and can be endlessly duplicated.

User base follows the perceived "value" which is alleged to be the "rarity" - once this perception is shattered (as it should be) all the cryptocurrency will go to zero.

>>9256458
shut it down boys

>> No.9257743

If endless duplication -> destroy value were true, BTC and BCH would have equal values. They don't, and BTC has retained far more value. Therefore, there must be some inherent value people are giving to BTC beyond merely its limited supply.

In short, your premise is flawed and it fails to account for some other variable giving BTC its value.

The value of anything is given by people (Supply x Demand), nothing in itself truly has value. If humans are wiped out from planet earth, than dollar bills and gold bars will become completely useless.

>> No.9257949

>>9257743
>fails to account for some other variable giving BTC its value
Novelty and stupidity.

>> No.9257984

To put it another way, there will only be so many 1962 mustangs. They're more valuable because there are only a handful of them. Making new cars will not devalue the car.

>> No.9258039

>>9257893
>nothing in itself truly has value.
Commodities and services do have value, but fiat currencies have none except for their convenience at price-setting instead of the inefficiencies of barter, and this must be maintained by a government sanctioned status as "legal tender". With crypto you have infinite fiat currency - therefore it has no "store" of value and due to lack of monopoly its ability to serve as a pricing mechanism will also fail to maintain itself.

>> No.9258087

>>9256709
There's basically an unlimited supply and low demand for these shitcoins. Bitcoin however has billions of dollars of physical infrastructure and has survived almost a decade of attacks. It's proven itself and it has the name and more importantly the network effect.

>> No.9258217

>>9257949
Now you're moving the goalposts. Let's try again, what exactly are your premises?

As far as I can tell, you're (now) arguing that BTC only has:
1) limited supply
2) novelty
3) stupidity
supporting its value. You further argue that 1) is not a true support (via endless duplication).

But how do you address 2) and 3)?
And are you now saying there are no other variables than the three supporting BTC's value? (If so, how do you account for the "network effect" described by others?)

>> No.9258388

>>9258217
Investors get in saying,
>"I know it's stupid, but I'll sell it to the next guy before it crashes"

BTC has a user base and ability to complete transactions - so if you get in and get out instantly and return to cash then you're fine. But since this same service of completing a transaction can be duplicated just as well by any fork, the only value will be in completing the sale - eating into mastercard/visa commissions. But that's the only value - the commission - not the coin.

>> No.9258569

>>9257485

LOL@ intellectual propert protection. Chinks could make an exact copy and throw it up on the internet with no repercussions.

It wouldn't work though because people already use the original network.

You think you have an original thought here? That people don't realize coins can be forked? The network goes beyond the code brainlet. Not to mention the teams behind certain coins given them additional value, etc.

>> No.9258592

>>9257893

this. virtually all value is perceived. I supposed you could argue things like air water food and shelter have true intrinsic value for humans but any actual quantification of that value (i.e. 1 gallon of water is worth x amount) is collectively assigned and not inherent.

>> No.9258683

>>9258039

a government assigning something as legal tender is an influencing factor in that something being accepted by a population as currency. Ultimately however it is the population accepting that thing as currency which gives it value and not the government saying it has value.

If people decide they went to use BTC for a currency because they like its qualities (such as censorship resistance) that makes it just as valid as any government backed currency

>> No.9259419

>>9258683
>because they like its qualities (such as censorship resistance)
I'm not arguing with that, I'm saying BTC has no value above any other, therefore it is not an "investment" - it is a transaction device only - and it will compete with all the other coin until the commission is razor thin. Don't buy crypto don't hold crypto - but if you have to send/receive cryto briefly then shop for whichever one you can get in and out of easiest.
