I majored in CS and did a year towards a PhD and can easily say that, while grad school research was really fun and fulfilling, overall I would rather be any of my destitute friends that studied art in college and work my ass off to make it in the arts.

I've been at a prop trading firm for a while now, which is better but there's something unsatisfying about not being able to look back at any kind of legacy and that every day sounds the same when you describe it to the gf

It's not inconsequential, but it's nowhere near enough to justify "Lol, you pathetic person only making 95% of what I make on average!"

And just for the record, I was only referring to Engineering jobs, not things like Math which are STEM and make less than econ majors.

STEM degrees are for people with low self-confidence. Enjoy your average middle class life and your beloved job security and health benefits.

If you have an ounce of self motivation/passion for success then the skills you get from business/econ/finance can make you 10x what the "millionaire next door" type of beta male is making.
