How do I get a job with my only experience being a full year of part-time work at GameStop?

What can I put on my resume to make it sound pleasing?

I'm very skilled with Mac, Linux and Windows management, but I haven't taken any sort of college classes. It would be nice to work with computers in some way, but whatever.

I would very much like to work in some kind of office if possible. Or maybe just more retail work if that's all I can get; but I never get any return calls.

I just need a job, man. The only reason I managed to work at GameStop is because I used to live near one located in bumfuck nowhere and i was the only one who applied, and then when i moved, the manager also happened to move so he just took me back on at the new location. no other place has ever called me back. im 22 years old and a high school graduate, and i plan on moving out of state as soon as possible and starting college once i move, but at this rate it looks more like ill be on the fucking streets.

You are 22 and you only have 1 year of part time work? kek what where you doing?

I guess the only thing you can do is to try and use those computer "skills" as the focus on your resume and to just focus on nailing your interview.

Aim at entry level positions, and just apply, apply apply.hopefully your experience at gamestop has improved your people skills, because at 22 with barely any experience, you are going to fucking need people skills.

Aim for retail. that is entry level and it builds your people skills for later.

As far as experience goes, lie on your application. Come on kid, wake up.

If you want to go an IT route you can get certifications pretty easily.
CompTia's A+ Cert is the industry standard and they offer several others aswell.
http://certification.comptia.org/getCertified/certifications.aspx

Cisco has plenty of very useful certs aswell

If you want to specialize in windows, microsoft offers several

Actually if there's anything you wanna specialize in just google it + certification and see if anything legit looking comes up. You can also ask about them on /g/ and filter through the trolls.

What kind of work will this get you? Will you just be stuck working at the Geek Squad, or can you get a real IT job without a degree?

go for retail work at a comcast/verizon store

they dont require degrees, and it can pay about $20/hr once you factor in commissions and bonuses

focus on customer service skills and product knowledge,, but mainly customers all the way

make it sound like you'd suck a customer's dick if they asked you to. you're all about the customer. think of/make up some specific examples where you really go out of your way to make a customer happy. make it sound like you go into every single interaction trying to ensure that the customer leaves happy (after buying what they need)

one of the best things you can say is that you make the customer happy by asking questions and trying to understand them

this is the best job i can think of based on your experience. i started my career from retail experience but i had a degree

top kek

Whoever started this rumor is full of shit. Jobs don't call people just because they applied. My first job working at a grocery store (HEB) I stopped by MINIMUM once a week for a quick second and let the managers know I had put in an app and would really like the opportunity to be part of the team, etc. Squeaky wheel gets the grease, come hiring time they remembered my face and blamo - employment. I then went to RadioShack and same thing, stop by once a week for a quick second (DO NOT BE ANNOYING/HANG AROUND ) be sincere and professional just tell them you are really interested and hope they will consider you blah blah. After that I was an assistant manager at GameStop. We were a little pick and only hired good looking people, muscular popular guys, hot girls. Damn those girls didn't know shit about games but holy crap those nerds loved buying stuff/reserving games from them. From there I went to an accounting firm. Emails work great. Immediately after the interview send an email thanking them for the opportunity and taking time, blah blah your very interested in the position, blah blah hope you will consider me blah blah. From there phone calls to follow up work well, maybe stop by once to follow up but it's not really good ediquite, just email/phone calls to follow up so they can forward them to all people in the office who will be making that decision.

I applied to a place that pays for your A+ cert and possibly even your Security+ cert but didn't get in even though I was in the program two years ago.
