I just read online that people used bitcoins to buy drugs and stuff on the dark web. how did they manage trustless transactions back then if the oracle problem still hasn’t been solved?

It's simple anon.
An escrow smart contract will hold my payment.
Then when the oracle will check two things:
- tracking, that my order has been received
- contents are what I actually ordered, as some scammers send empty boxes or whatnot

Then when oracle confirms both, the smart contract can release escrow.
