Everyone else "likes" to travel, so people find it a valuable trait, to be well traveled. How else are you going to get any perspective on the world, Anon?

Travel is great if you have a real interest in the country or if you are going there to learn something that you are really into.

If you are travelling to as many countries as you can just to impress your friends, that is pretty shallow and lame though.

Nah you're wrong though

Travelling is a good way to actually learn about the world, eat new food, fuck foreign bitches. Some people die without even leaving their home country in their entire lifetime and it's kinda sad.

>> No.8703206

I think it's okay to travel if it's what you want to do, but there is something wrong with the feverish, almost desperate need that young people have to not only travel, but to be SEEN traveling and post it all over social media, so that EVERYBODY knows that you're T R A V E L I N G like oh wow!

I think people have this expectation that it will make them somehow bigger or more important or experienced people, or more "themselves." Like they will discover something profound by a brief trip that ultimately leaves them exactly where they started, with the same people, probably in the same circumstances.

In the Tao de Ching it says that "without going out your door, you can know the ways of the world." I think there is an important lesson in that. Look inside your heart. Human beings here at home are much the same as they are everywhere. They behave in mostly the same ways, minus a few details. They work, they play, they have families and friends that they love and care for. Focus on your friends and family and be content with the slice of the world you find yourself in. There is no need to go hurrying out to all these obscure corners of the earth to make some bold statement about yourself. People will secretly resent you for it anyway. Why waste the money?

>> No.8703225

Traveling can be fun but nornans just like to tell others they’re doing things. Think of how many Normans post pictures of themselves in “nature” or overlooking some natural scenery. Normans are cargo cultists that think if they take all the pictures of a life well spent they’ve actually lived on. Disgusting cretins. They’ll take pictures with their kids as though they’re a happy family but deep down they’ll resent their kids if one of them has a real problem or screws up.

Same reason that information that can be quickly digested is so popular. There's only an idea of understanding, people usually travel to visit, not live, then they go home. Some may find a new home but most of the time it's running away from the darkness of what's found when staying still. Generally it's a way to disconnect the brain and there's nothing bad with that in itself, we need to relieve stress one way or another and when we can't find a way to do it we the last valve is hurting ourselves or others. It doesn't matter if that's voluntary, our body can decide it's time to shut down shit anyways.

I just go to places lile that, always alone, see the best view I can, get all emotional and depressed loke some faggot about my life, take a picture and go home. Of course I try to see every inch of whatever city I'm in the next day too but really it just comes down to seeing that one nice view and tearing up about my own life or something. The way I see it, I can just work some corpoorate job and be miserable every day, be a loser doing weird dead-end things without even a job in my home country, or go travel and try to find something new. Yeah I know what you mean - sort of. As I get older I realise everyone has their hang ups. A typical example would be a teenage girl with body image issues - it's so common.

I went to my friend's baptism yesterday and kind of felt bad for him because I see the same sadness in him - and he's deluding himself that religion is the answer to this existential misery

I guess I'm one of the lucky few in that I can honestly say I don't have these issues - but I did when I was younger (normal teenage stuff). Sure, I get down occasionally but I'm generally pretty happy irrespective of what I'm doing (read: I don't have to be travelling to be happy and in fact haven't been abroad in over 6 months)

It might not seem like it but the reason for posting all this stuff is because I totally relate and I'm trying to describe the mindset shift that I believe led me to being the happy(er) person I now am.

You have to be honest with what you want. Sure, if you're fat you can look at fit people and mock the time they 'waste' on their health but deep down all fat people want to look like that. Be honest with yourself otherwise you just sound like one of those fat acceptance hambeasts

Agreed, "traveling" just to do it, roastie style, is the most boring shit. Unless you are like a historian by trade who gives a fuck.

The proper way to travel is with a mission or destination that can only be achieved by traveling. Of course if you're a NEET there's no need to travel at all but for people who actually like to do shit..

For example, going to Scotland to golf. There is only one St. Andrew's.
Going the Netherlands to ski. There is only one Alps.
Going to Maui for the beach and warm weather.

>You need to be rich to be happy and you need others to believe you're rich. Same for your success. Think about where that's coming from.
How do you know this? Stop projecting. Read this post >>8704259 - my happiness comes from within and it's something I've had to work on.

If you're rich then poor people will look at you and say "but I bet he doesn't have a social life"
If you're fit then fat people will look at you and say "I bet he wastes all his time in the gym"
If you have lots of relationships with women incels will look at you and say "I bet he's stupid"

And then now you see another classic example of this kind of cope. When you go travelling people on an anonymous anime message board will look at you and say "I bet he's poor"/"I bet he's stupid"/"I bet he's secretly unhappy"/"I bet his life is meaningless" from their mom's basement or whatever

I know I keep quoting myself but >>8703800 and >>8703997

Everyone should stop looking down on everyone else. Normies shouldn't look down on autists and autists shouldn't look down on normies. In an ideal world you would be fit, rich, intelligent, sociable, funny, and so on. And there's no law of nature that says you can't be all these things at the same time - so stop pretending there is.

Sure, some people who go travelling might be dumb or frivolous with their money. But if you have to put them down by telling yourself this then you should probably look at building yourself up rather than bringing them down.

The normies could learn from the autists and the normies could learn from the autists.

I enjoy traveling. Not just abroad but to other cities in the US. There are ways to travel that are cheap, enjoyable and you can time it so you still have a professional career. I travel in between switching jobs or accumulate PTO. I always travel with other people so the cost of everything besides the flight(if necessary) is lower. That being said, I think most people who say I like to travel on their tinder profile probably are shallow meme people though.

>> No.8704979

I think a bit of travel is great for anybody, and it really was well worth the "investment" for me. I didn't travel on my own outside of NJ until I was 24, when I decided to work at a summer camp. I was recommended by a friend, despite hating camping due to my parents giving me bad childhood experiences with it and generally having no outdoor knowledge. I didn't even know how to pump my own gas, I was so shut in from the world around me. I worked long days, struggling to learn the skills needed. By the end of the summer though, I loved every second of it and I go back every year. I learned to love climbing, mtb, and camping, but most importantly, learned to let go and open up to new experiences. I used a hammock as a bed for months, took roadtrips to beaches and destinations I thought I could never afford or see, and after a bad breakup with "the one" I learned to love again. Working a seasonal job is a hard lifestyle to keep up, but I love the type of travel it allows and I'd recommend a season of it to anyone who needs some perspective on life

I bet that's exactly what you consider traveling. And it is a meme. Getting drunk in an all inclusive hotel is a waste of money. Normies do know that it's a waste of money, that's why they are so hung up on it. It's a WASTE OF MONEY and in their stupid heads only successful people can afford to waste money.
Real traveling where you experience different cultures and people is exhilarating, but that's too difficult for most people because meeting new people is too hard or stressful.

here's the REAL redpill on traveling you fags

yes, most people who travel are vapid and hollow. They are privileged normies. Conversations consist of where they've been and where they're going. The birth of social media has drawn these idiots like moths to a flame. There is no better way to project yourself as worldly, cultured, and open-minded than by taking a picture with some orphan in Cambodia whom you will never see again. Or atop a low elevation mountain in New Zealand.

what we see ITT are two types of people.

Some of you reject traveling solely because it is a normie activity. Much the same way the normie wants to project themselves a certain way, you want to project yourself a certain way (by not associating with normie behavior). Some people are truly autists and require no validation to thrive, but the rest of you simply seek that validation in other ways. Society may have wronged you at some point and so you adopt a counter culture. Instead of posting photos to instagram, you post edgy things on 4chan perhaps to elevate yourselves. You cope by pretending that your existence at home is more meaningful (kek).

The other group, and there is some overlap, consists of people who are low in openness to experience. This is an innate psychometric trait which predicts one's desire for novelty and new experiences. Typically a liberal trait. All of your explanations for why traveling is bad are simply post-hoc rationalizations. This isn't inherently good or bad, it simply is.

For the rest of us, traveling is pretty good. I never take pictures of myself. I'm never eager to tell people where I've been. I don't think traveling makes for a fulfilling/meaningful life. And like I said, most of the other travelers you'll meet are incredibly dull.

But occasionally you'll make a personal connection that you retain for life. The earth is an expansive place and there's some really cool shit to see and experience. Reading a historical book doesn't compare to the real thing. Pictures don't do architecture justice. Examining the lives of people in radically different circumstances provides perspective on your own. It's fun to get lost in a place on the other side of the world, maybe pretend to be someone else for a day. Then bask in the absurdity of it all. If you don't like these things that's absolutely FINE, but don't belittle people who do
