I think its a smart move

I still don't think I understand it correctly. From what I interpreted from the blog post I've been linked a while back, they're just keeping Google concentrated on their already established products i.e. Google search engine, Chrome, Android, etc. to curate, and now they're creating Alphabet for cutting edge development?

>> No.849956

it gives more transparency to where the venture capital goes or some shit like that...

Very smart.

Google it self was way to disorganized for it's own good.

so what you're saying is: google needs a new dicksucking app?

This, Google is going broke with the current business model. Ad revenue is drying up and they're looking for new revenue streams before the next tech crash.

>> No.850131

Smart
They are going to finance moonshotsla on a separate offering
Meaning google investors don't get dragged down with their failures

>> No.850174

>>849843

I'm confused, so they're renamed it to Google Alphabet or what?

>> No.850192

>>850174
No, they basically just split google into multiple subcompanies that do different shit. Alphabet is just a new holding corp for all these

>> No.850202

>>849952
google is growing and expanding outside the tech industry. they don't want to dilute the brand with too much random crap, so they're restructuring under a new name and keeping "Google" reserved for tech projects

all their future stuff like self-driving cars will far under alphabet

it's a logical move, plenty of companies do stuff like this when expanding outside their traditional industries

And the stock is up because GOOG shares are basically nonvoting because FUCK YOU THATS WHY.

By "Fuck you that's why" I mean they made the publicly traded stocks get 1/10th of a vote for every vote the founders got. Issue all the stock you want but retain control. Nothing illegal or shady about that, the investors knew what they were getting into at IPO.

But the bug/feature of it is that Carl Icahn can't waltz in and tell Google to stop with all the drone delivery, life extension, and driverless car shit, and just concentrate on spying on people and putting ads in front of them.

The bug is that no hostile takeovers and no premium because any would-be activist shareholders have no power over the board.

The feature is that Google gets to do what AT&T/Bell Labs did when it invented shit like Unix: let the advertising (Bell Labs: landline phones/long distance) side of it fund the moonshots (Bell Labs: transistor, UNIX), only one of which needs to pay off.

Alphabet? It's a bet that Sergei/Brin can extract alpha like Buffett did by using his insurance businesses to generate the cash required to pay for his other acquisitions. It's not about ads vs driverless cars, it's about Brin and Page as allocators of capital. It's about alpha.

>self-driving cars
self driving cars are tech projects too you fucking retard, kill yourself before saying stupid shit. its more than just that

>> No.850373

>>850303
I think by "tech" he meant Google's core data-driven advertising business.

Technically, but it's more of an automotive project.

But cars are technology, same with biotechnology, rockets and such.
