Popular brokers for stock trading:
Robinhood
>commission free and no minimum to open
http://www.robinhood.com

> How is it free?
Robinhood earns revenue by collecting interest on cash/securities and fees from their Robinhood Gold service

> It's been X days, why isn't my account verified yet?
Not being approved in 3 days seems to be the new norm. Nevertheless, call/email their support if you've been waiting more than that.

> When is it coming to my country?
The only "plans" are on an Australian and Chinese beta. Neither of which has gained much traction.

Flat day. Most stocks hung around +/- 2%. One interesting break from the norm: golden goose Canopy Growth closed down 2.7% while fellow big three companies Aphria and Aurora close up 2% and 1% respectively. No particular reason, whales playing whale games i imagine. There is some pretty obvious price manipulation in the sector right now, i think mostly to cool the heels of the bulls a bit for a week or two. Lots of accumulation going on around power hour in particular this week.

Bull run this spring will be something special. I believe it will eclipse January highs by a decent margin. And then it will crash, consolidate, limp along until first earnings after recreational sales commence.

Further to this, i should explain why i'm so bullish on this sector for this spring in particular. It's a combination of two things; first the obvious that it's an emerging market both for Canada and globally as sentiment regarding prohibition of marijuana is changing. Second, despite the first reason, this remains the most shorted sector on the Canadian exchanges. Part of the explanation for November 2017-first week January 2018 was a huge short squeeze thanks to record numbers of new investors entering the market just for this. I thought the short positions would decrease after the crash but the numbers say otherwise. Still most shorted sector and the squeeze will be even better (or worse if you're shorting) this time around.

i was thinking about buying cheaper stocks (around $1-2) that give a dividend and once i feel like they've made their money, taking out the initial investment and moving it into another stock and leaving all the profit in the orignal stock, or should i close the entire position

Why is /smg/'s dick so hard for Amyris?

I'm a scientist at a pre-IPO biotech company (actually near where Amyris is), and Amyris is like our model of what we want to avoid. They've gone in circles for 15 years. The malaria stuff is cool but it hasn't done anything big in years. They pushed for the IPO on their drop in synthetic fuel replacement, which went nowhere. the stock market as a whole isn't a zero sum game, everybody can make money; but beating the average is.
undervalued stocks are a finite resource, if it was obvious a specific stock would make above average returns without the associated risk then some investing bot would buy them until they're at value before you could see them

>> No.8239082

>>8238974
well of course there's risk. but the company issued guidance on good earnings, and if you simply buy after the issuance, you can make money several days after the fact. The market is not efficient, or else you would see nearly no volatility at all.

Bots aren't as good as you think, because a bot is easier to trick than a human. DRYS has made a lot of money fishing money from bots looking for good news and valuations.

>because a bot is easier to trick than a human
yeah, dozens if not hundreds of these schemes pop up every year, not to mention the specific ways bots trick other bots in the realm of HFT, it's pretty much an arms race. but all the opportunities dry up pretty quickly, which is my point.

50/50 to beat the bench mark. not just to make money.
if you were trading exclusively in something high risk, high volatility like pharma. I'm guessing the benchmark for last year is about 30-40%, with a high beta. making 80% in the short term isn't that surprising.
also buy low sell high isn't really useful advice without fundamental analysis. just trading on momentum generally leads people to do the opposite; it's human nature to be scared and sell when they're losing and over confident and buy when they're winning.

just the fact that there's someone to sell to at the "oversold" price means there's someone looking at the same information making the opposite bet.
