Where is the best place to keep a bitcoin wallet? If I keep $10,000 worth on a site like blockchain can I trust it?

>> No.808372

>>808364
blockchain.info is very safe, even they don't have access to your keys. exactly how safe depends on your level of certainty that your pc is utterly void of malware.
using a cold storage wallet is 100% safe. install bitcoin core on an operating system which has absolutely no connection to the internet and never will have. run the wallet, back up your wallet.dat file and make a note of your receiving address, then shred the o.s. zero chance those coins are being stolen.
could have gone into a lot more detail here but conscious of how alien this stuff is to most people. might be best to google "bitcoin cold storage wallet"

hell NO

blockchain have had numerous serious issues

use Armory, Electrum offline wallets, etc.

to be ultra paranoid, use several different methods of storage

this would reduce security. andreas antelopemonopolies is the chief security exec for blockchain.info. assuming i'm not a pleb who opens every HotGril.JPG.exe file emailed to them, i'd only feel safer if it was satoshi himself.

i manually create my own paper wallets, but this is probably perfectly safe too...

Well, AA or not, as a company they've done some REALLY stupid things, google "blockchain.info RNG".
e.g.

These are SERIOUS errors.

You could have your money stolen through no fault of your own and without even opening that HotGril.JPG.exe

I think in all cases they refunded affected customers, but still... I wouldn't trust them with more than pocket change.

What are the advantages/disadvantages

>> No.808505

only legit cold storage is guaranteed atm to be safe, i still recommend blockchain.info to noobs. it's by far the safest online wallet imo and it's piss easy.

cold storage should be easy as fuck too though for anyone capable of so much as using /biz/. you just need to download this...
https://bitcoin.org/en/download
run it on a fresh install of an o.s which has no net connection, grab the wallet.dat and receiving address it creates, then destroy the o.s on which it was created. the only way anyone can then steal your shit is to come and steal the physical hardware (usb drive, piece of paper, whatever) on which you stored the wallet.dat's credentials.

wish i could sell paper wallets, but they really do need to be created by and seen solely by the owner of the funds.

>What are the advantages/disadvantages
there are untold numbers of plebkids using it so there's tonnes of support. cannot think of any other advantages. i hate doge since mining it since a few mins after it's launch, then bailing because i thought it was shit. could have made silly money if i'd kept those gpu's whirring. too butthurt to buy, own or trade a single doge ever. if you wanna learn to use (mine, own, trade whatever) cryptos and you dunno what you're doing, then it's probably pretty cool.

Agreed. And if he is investing $10K, he better graduate from "noob" pretty fast.

>grab the wallet.dat and receiving address it creates, then destroy the o.s on which it was created
Does Bitcoin Core still create a limited size pool of addresses? That caused noobs to lose money in the past. I would still recommend Armory or Electrum or some software that uses wallet seeds, for this reason. Unless they've fixed it.

>>808519
I will. Mainstream investment is just getting started. Any future bubbles will be open to anybody, minimal technical skills required.

Just bought another $750 in bitcoin to add to my stash.

Google trends showing searches for bitcoin raising quite a bit this month.

I think another bubble is brewing, I wouldn't be surprised if we're above $400/BTC in a month.

>> No.808904

It's probably due to Greece voting influencing the btc market , again. Just like 2 years ago when BTC spiked.
