Well, as I write this I am sitting in my grandma's basement because I got kicked out of an Ivy League University for 2 years. What happened was I had sex with a girl who (unknowing to me) had a boyfriend. Well two days later the police come to my dorm and say I have been accused of drugging and raping this girl. Fml. anyway, the legal stuff was all dropped cause they realized it was bullshit but the college's Title IX office found me responsible for sexually assaulting her. My family is suing the shit out of them because they violated a bunch of stuff, but I probably won't be able to return for 2 years now. I am depressed as fuck because I know I did nothing wrong and a bunch of people think I did. I could try to transfer schools but I wouldn't get into any university of the same caliber as the one I was at. So in the meantime I am living in bumfuck montana working on a farm. Does anybody have any advice for what I should do?

I think you should wait it out and really fucking work the time you've been given. Cross out any prerequisites you'll need at a local community college, get in great shape, read a ton—possibly read a fuckload of biographies, if I could go back in time that's what I would do. Also/alternatively, getting a job is a great idea. I'd look for a great internship in another city if you can't find anything local. Locally, it'd be great to join a construction company or a group doing home repair because you'll learn a shit ton of useful skills even if the pay sucks.

This situation seems like a gift to me. Guessing you probably feel derailed but you should make the best out of this. I'm writing this as someone in a similar situation: I'm from a rural midwest state, literally worked on my family farm today, and I graduated from one of the best technical US universities around.

Op, if you want to entertain the notion of going to the military, then you definitely will want to finish up a degree -- any degree at any college will do. That way you can go in as an officer and have a pretty decent job/life as far as the military is concerned. They also have officer training schools which let you finish your BA there. I think the Air Force has one in Colorado and you've probably heard about West Point. The military academies are actually regarded as being prestigious. The fact that you're an Ivy Leaguer will probably look really good on your application.

Look man, I can't tell you how to run your life. But there is definitely an opportunity cost to sitting two years, plus the lack of dignity, to return to a school that has treated you this badly. I understand that every college student's wet dream is an Ivy League school, but keep in mind that it's not the only path to success.

OP Honestly take two years, sort out what it is you're going to study at school, and return. Half the returns of an ivy league school are in the name, not the education, so it would be imprudent to throw that away. If the case gets solved, you won't even have to bring it up at job interviews. you can probably even say that you took a gap year if you do something meaningful - you'll probably look more compelling for it anyways. Why would you voluntarily list that in a resume? In mine, I just have my year of graduation. I took 6-7 years to finish my BA for personal/health reasons. I took a year off. Went part-time a few semesters etc. The 4 year graduation thing is actually not that common. I think the statistic is that only about 50% of people graduate on time.

Take it from a high school drop out, here's what you can do, and still end up rich.

1.) Decide on your major.
2.) Choose the best state school that offers the major.
3.) Go to the best community college, take credits that will transfer to that state college. Becuase its a state school, they typically have good relationships with the community colleges.
Pay all in cash.
4.) Transfer those credits to the state college.
5.) walk out with almost 75% less debt than the rest, and still get into the field you want.

A two year suspension is very draconian and unreasonable. I don't want to seem like a hypocrite. I took time off from college. But it was voluntary. In your case, it's not. Again man, it's an opportunity cost. I think they're imposing this two year suspension in hopes that you don't return. Most probably wouldn't. A lot can happen in two years, and maybe you won't even care about finishing your degree anymore. And again, the opportunity cost of starting whatever career two years later.

I followed a similar pipeline as you; I'm also a high school drop out, and I'm pursuing a master's degree after graduating from a state uni. We can definitely carve out decent lives. But just having an Ivy League stamped on your resume will open doors that you and I will never have open to us. It's an ocean of difference in terms of opportunity, at least that's my belief anyway.

Alright man, good luck. Having done some final thinking on the matter -- I do think the best course of action is to graduate from your Ivy. Despite this setback, I think the cost benefit analysis is still skewed in favor of having the Ivy on your resume at the end of the day. Don't consider the state or middle tier private schools unless it's an option of last resort for graduating with a degree.

If you really want to do your crazy shit in the military then just YOLO it, I guess. I can't wrap my head around it, but maybe I'm just a pussy. You just better pray that Trump doesn't send you to die in some suicide mission.

I used to work on a hearing board for these sort of cases. The threshold for a 2 year suspension is "50% and a hair" meaning it's her word against yours. If it's her and a friend who claims to be a witness then it's an open and shut case. Much different from actual criminal courts, it's super fucked up.
