TA on a weekly/daily chart is a 51% chance at the very least as it constitutes when a commodity is over bought and oversold. No events are even close to Gox-worthy to throw BTC out of these patterns atm. Even tether is just 2 Billion out of 500 Billion marketcap

I don't see it cycling above 10k anymore. There have been a few 10k pumps today, none of them reverse the trend for more than an hour.

The psychological impact of it no longer being 10k is bigger than tether news.

Ironically this is worse for Bitcoin in the long run. If the spiral downward is prolonged, the devaluing is more solidified.

If Bitcoin hit $1000 today, there would be a massive influx of people wanting to buy, if it spirals down to $1000 in a year, not so much.

1 bolt of lightning could power 1 bitcoin transaction. (1 billion joules of energy, roughly equivalent to 277kWh) It's estimated that the earth is struck 100 times per second by lightning. Which sounds like a lot, except that Visa alone processes 24,000 transactions per second.

Ripple is the only crypto that offers a realistic enough energy consumption to ever see broad use. And it's already been coopted by the (((bankers))) so have fun with that.

Good read. Lightning Network will reduce power per hash and increases transactions while decreasing transaction times. It's like changing your light bulbs from incandescent to CFL or LED. More efficient while putting out more energy. Open source and decentralized Hashgraph is the future though.

I think Lightning is the ONLY way crypto can scale to global use.

After all, just like you said, there will be way too many transactions. Everything is a transaction, even a parent giving their kid their daily allowance. Or people chipping in to pay a bill when eating out, each person will make a transaction. Also online use cases, like each ad view/click could be paid as a crypto transaction, or each tip a streamer/camgirl receives could be a transaction.

It's going to be billions of transactions per day.

It CANNOT be all saved on-chain.

Lightning works best for this, since it's basically just multi-sig smart contracts where you can continuously send value across the network through payment channels, all OFF-CHAIN.

This is the only way I can see global scaling working.

Pic related.

> I've literally yet to see any kind of impressive technical detail about lightning network.

So I have absolutely no idea what your level of understanding of Lightning network is (you even referred to an actual lightning bolt when I brought it up).

So I'm trying to gauge how much you actually know about it by dropping every reference I know and see how you react...

...and that was really a bad reaction, so all I ended up getting is that you've already decided against it for some reason.

When something would have to consume all the energy in the universe just to process daily happy meal sales it doesn't matter if you 100x, or 1000x, or 100,000x it's efficiency. 1/100,000th of an absurdity is still an absurdity. Like I keep saying, begrudgingliny, because I don't want to shill out all this delusional nonsense, Ripple is the only one I've seen with remotely promising energy usage. If a crypto ever does get widely adopted it will be based on something like that. Blockchain is just a retarded old proof of concept. If cryptocurrency is a motorcycle, then blockchain is 2 wheels on fixed axles lined up with each other with a chair awkwardly positioned above.

“According to the Digiconomist’s ‘Bitcoin Energy Consumption Index,’ bitcoin already uses nearly 40TWh of electricity per year, more than many small countries, and that number will only rise if solutions to its inefficiencies aren’t found and implemented.”

An alpha version of Lightning was released on January 10, and the first tests have got industry onlookers very excited.

It’s too early to know yet if this is really the solution to bitcoin’s scaling problems and whether or not it will make transactions sufficiently cheap and fast to remain competitive against other forms of payment, but if it does work, the value of certain altcoins could plummet.

It sounds like you don't know what Lightning Network is...

Each transaction doesn't have to be mined. It's literally just two computers (both ends of a channel) changing a variable in memory.

Everything is OFF-CHAIN, meaning no miners are involved. No intensive power consumption that can also double as a space heater involved.

Also, Ripple is not centralized.

Like Ripple can do account freezes by requesting gateways, they've done it before.

They froze the 96 million XRP owned by Jed McCaleb, original founder of Ripple Labs, by requesting the Bitstamp gateway to do so.

I can imagine the IRS making similar demands if it gains widespread adoption.

That's just as bad as holding your money in the bank.

Not even "uncensorable" like real decentralized crypto.

Also unlike real decentralized crypto, this means governments can shut it down. Would you really think they would let something replace the world reserve currency, the petrodollar, if a private company holds HALF THE SUPPLY (50 billion out of a 100)?

So if a happy meal costs 100k, that's absurd.

But if a happy meal costs $1... it's still absurd?

The reason your favorite shitcoin is cheap to use is because NO ONE USES IT. Once it hits scale, (99.99% won't) they'll run into the same problem.
